Walt Disney World swung for the fences with the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel.
Sadly, while many fans believed they knocked it out of the park, it was ultimately a swing and a miss…big time.
News broke last week that Disney would be converting the former hotel into office spaces.
It was sad news. What they built truly was remarkable and unlike any travel experience out there. It was a hotel but also a show where guests were part of the story, interacting with cast members and fully engrossed in the theme.
The attention to details throughout the “ship” were incredible. I was blown away. You really did feel like you could be in space at that moment. Being part of the story, choosing a side, it was all next level.
But as with everything these days, it all boiled down to pricing.
The immersive experience was just too expensive for the masses.
I held out hope Disney would find a way to use the space in some themed capacity. After all, it cost hundreds of millions to build.
Now it will serve as offices for Walt Disney Imagineering…which I can’t decide if that’s an amazing decision or kind of cruel. Here, go work in this building that we imagined up but flopped. Motivation to never fail again by working in the very place that didn’t last, perhaps?
What did you think of Disney’s attempt at a new themed hotel experience?
