Flying out of Boston after Dec. 1 and want to eat well? You’re in luck—and we’re not just talking about butter-drenched lobsters at the airport's Legal Sea Foods.
Starting Dec. 1, Delta Air Lines will debut a Shake Shack partnership, the first of its kind in the airline industry. For seven days before (and up to 24 hours prior to) a flight departing from Boston Logan International Airport, passengers can place an order for a Shake Shack cheeseburger. This order is delivered while in-flight, at 30,000 feet, and only available to First Class passengers on routes that are more than 900 miles.
Nothing against the airline’s famed Biscoff Cookies, an example of another culinary partnership, but if you’re running late during a transfer or know you’ll be hungry while cresting through the clouds, this is comfort food at its finest. Just like at Shake Shack locations, these 100% Angus beef cheeseburgers served on a toasted potato bun can be customized with tomato, lettuce, and Shake Shack’s legendary and tangy ShackSauce (mayonnaise, ketchup and yellow mustard along with seasonings). Making this a full meal are the sweet and savory additions of chips, Caesar salad, and a brownie.
One reason Delta Air Lines rolled out this edible amenity is because they noticed burgers are among the top ordered menu items while traveling.
Orders can be placed in the Fly Delta app or a link in an email sent to passengers on Boston-departing flights. This is the second partnership between Delta Air Lines and Danny Meyer, founder of Shake Shack and CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group, which is based in New York City. Passengers on flights departing out of John F. Kennedy International Airport can order meals from Union Square Events, which is the catering company within Meyer’s hospitality group.
If you’re not flying out of Boston anytime soon, don’t fret: you can soon have your cheeseburger, too. There are definite plans for this partnership to expand to other U.S. markets throughout 2025.
