Delta Air Lines is expanding its footprint Down Under.
Later this year, the Atlanta-based carrier will launch new service to Melbourne, Australia.
The new route, originating from its West Coast hub at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), will give Delta an all-new destination — its third on the Australian continent.

Ishrion Aviation was first to spot the new route, which a spokesperson for the carrier later confirmed to TPG.
Delta's new Australia route will launch this December, the airline said this weekend.
That'll allow the carrier to ramp up its schedule over the Pacific right as peak travel season in Australia begins during the southern hemisphere's summer season.
Notable about this route: Delta will operate its new flights between LAX and Melbourne Airport (MEL) with an Airbus A350-900 featuring its all-new cabin look, the carrier told TPG.

TPG recently got a sneak peek at the overhauled interior aesthetic on board a newly delivered Airbus, featuring darker, sleeker seats and memory foam Delta One suites with softer cloth coverings.
The aircraft sports Delta's more premium-heavy configuration, with 40 Delta One suites, 40 Premium Select recliners and 36 Comfort+ seats (along with 159 seats in the main cabin).
Delta will fly its LAX-MEL route three times weekly during the peak season. Here's what the itinerary will look like:
More Delta news: Delta cuts 2 Central America routes, but restores 2 West Coast flights for summer 2025
Located in the southeastern Australian state of Victoria, Melbourne will give Delta three destinations on the continent — all from its Southern California hub.
The airline already flies from LAX to both Sydney and Brisbane.
Meanwhile, this new route will give U.S. travelers a sixth nonstop link to Victoria's capital, which is home to a variety of alluring points hotels such as the Ritz Carlton, Melbourne.
Current Melbourne flights from the U.S. include:

Late each night, scores of flights take off from U.S. West Coast airports, landing on the East Coast early the following morning. Many more jets make late-night departures to fly overnight from Hawaii and Alaska to the U.S. mainland, and from the U.S. to far-flung cities overseas — including the vast majority of planes headed to Europe.
As special as it is to travel solo, there is a real appeal to traveling alongside a special someone. As a pair, you can create new memories, add to your repertoire of references and inside jokes (“Remember that tango class in Buenos Aires…?” or “There’s nobody in the world I’d rather be on this Vespa with”), and build a language spoken only by you two. In matters of convenience and safety too, a travel buddy can be invaluable. You can share the cramped space on the two-seat sides of the plane. One can hold a spot in line at a museum while the other grabs breakfast pastries at the café. At the train station, the sentence “I’m going to the toilets; please watch my bag” could be, in the best of times, I trust you, even I love you.
It's dawn on Byron Bay's Wategos Beach. A steady stream of surfers are making their way across the doughy sand for their first paddle of the day. Out on the water, green troughs spread between blue ripples. A short amble away is the lighthouse marking Australia's easternmost tip, with views that stretch beyond the nearby banana and macadamia plantations. Since the Age of Aquarius, this jewel of the North Coast of New South Wales has attracted hippies, healers, and surfers caught between the beauty of the headland and the hinterland.
Before my days at TPG, I didn't know much about airline elite status nor did I particularly care. Lounge access and first-class upgrades felt like something only attained by road warriors who flew weekly and only saw their families on the weekends.
We've been trumpeting the great rail renaissance for a while now, and the trend sees little sign of slowing down, especially with Australia's latest addition to the world of luxury train suites.
