Hyatt's Thompson brand is a staple of the lifestyle hotel category with locations in popular cities around the world like Nashville; Palm Springs, California; Savannah, Georgia; and New York. This summer, Thompson is opening its doors to the sun and the sand of one of the country's most popular hotel destinations: Miami Beach, Florida — and TPG has an exclusive look into some of the fine details about the hotel.
Now taking reservations for stays from June 1, Thompson Miami Beach will offer 147 rooms and suites in a stunning new building on 17th Street and Washington Avenue, designed by French architect Rudy Ricciotti, just a few blocks from the beach.
The hotel's interiors, from acclaimed designer Gulla Jónsdóttir, reflect a midcentury modern vibe with South American-inspired accents. Rooms feature Sferra bed linens, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a private balcony or terrace attached to every accommodation.
Jónsdóttir's design infuses the property's spaces with nature at every turn, especially in the hotel's atrium, where verdant greenery abounds, contrasting the neutral tones of the other design elements.
Right now, Thompson Miami Beach is staying hush-hush about the hotel's dining scene, but guests should expect a lobby bar (rendering above), a signature indoor-outdoor restaurant on the roof with a French twist, and a rooftop pool with views of Miami Beach's world-famous art deco buildings and beyond.
"We're thrilled to introduce Thompson Miami Beach, a chic and eclectic new addition to the destination. Seamlessly blending tropical modernism and South American flair throughout its design, the property will debut a Miami-inspired ambiance with unforgettable experiences that bring the Thompson ethos to life," Karan Kakar, Thompson Miami Beach's general manager, exclusively told TPG.
Hyatt's lifestyle hotel journey in Miami Beach is a good example of how hotels and hotel brands can change quickly. There previously was a Thompson Miami Beach, but that hotel converted into the very popular The Confidante under Hyatt's The Unbound Collection back in 2016. Fast forward to 2025, and The Confidante, which has been undergoing an extensive remodel, will reopen as the Andaz Miami Beach just months before Thompson replants its flag in Miami.
Both hotels are big wins for Hyatt loyalists, with the Andaz providing an excellent beachfront property for guests who might be in beach vacation mode while the Thompson, with its city hotel vibes, will surely become a hot spot for the cool crowd that flocks to Southern Florida for events like Art Basel, the Miami International Boat Show and the Formula One Grand Prix.

Your March 2025 horoscope is here—and we won't mince words. It was written in the stars that 2025 would get off to a chaotic and bumpy start, and this month is (ufortunately) not when anything starts to stabilize. If anything, we might be in for heightened uncertainty this March as we wait for the lay of the land to reveal itself. Picking up the baton from a newly direct Mars, Venus and Mercury do double trouble as they retrograde together through Aries and Pisces, and eclipse season stirs the winds of change further. On top of that, Neptune leaves Pisces for the first time since 2012, and its initial ingress into Aries on March 30 ushers us further into the new timeline.
Earth may be a fairly uniform sphere, but the Northern Hemisphere has the lion's share of landmass at an estimated 68%, while the Southern Hemisphere's solid ground clocks in at 32%. Even more striking, approximately 87% of the world's population lives up top, while just 1.04 billion people (13%) reside below the equator.
