While making a name for himself styling world-stage celebrities like Celine Dion, Megan Thee Stallion, and muse Zendaya, Law Roach became such a fashion icon in his own right—ultra long, pin-straight hair and a penchant for sleek suits in black or white—that he was a popular Halloween costume this year (as documented on his Instagram.) “All of you did what needed to be done!” captioned Roach, who recently released a guide for those trying to replicate his success in other ways called How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence from the World’s Only Image Architect.
For the launch of his book, Roach partnered with Edition Hotels to host signings and events. During the tour, he spoke with Condé Nast Traveler about what he looks for in a hotel, needing help packing, and more.
His go-to flying outfit:
I have to fly in something comfortable, so usually it's a pair of Hanes cotton sweatpants and a hoodie, with a long coat because I'm always super cold on flights. Whether I'm getting off the plane in the Bahamas or somewhere tropical, I need to feel like I have some type of blanket, and that’s usually my coat.
His packing struggles:
Packing is one of the most stressful things in my entire life. I hate it. To be quite honest, when I was working [as a stylist], I would always ask one of my assistants to help me pack, and now I ask my friends to help. I'm an overpacker because clothes and my looks are so emotional, I just feel like I can't ever have enough. I’ll have at least two to three cases for maybe a four-day trip. No lists—what I like to do is try on everything, because like most of us, my weight fluctuates. And I go from there. It’s ridiculous.
His on-the-road beauty routine:
Skincare is the biggest thing for me, and I've made my routine really simple. I'm into La Roche-Posay products right now, and it's just the non-foaming facial cleanser and the Double [Repair] face moisturizer. I'm not using a lot of products right now, and my skin is in the best condition has been in probably the last couple years because I simplified my regimen. And that also makes it easy to pack!
In his carry-on:
I’m pretty simple when it comes to the things I carry. I have to keep some sort of lip balm and my moisturizer [with me], always. I like to carry a travel fragrance and give a little squirt in the restroom before I use it to make sure it smells fresh. And a phone charger, of course.
His priority when planning a vacation:
It's a beach, for sure. I’ve never understood people who vacation in the cold. I have to have a beach. The only way for me to recharge is listening to the water. I prefer to have a hotel that's on the beach, where I can hear the waves crashing. I don't have to get in the water; I just
