Now’s the time to book a European getaway for 2024. Or sooner! And one airline is offering a steal of a sale for round trip premium seating.
La Compagnie, the all business class French airline, is offering a “Blue Friday” promotion named after its signature baby blue painted fleet of A321neo aircraft.
The deal offers travelers heading from New York to Paris, Milan, and Nice, round-trip business-class flights for $2,000 per ticket. Tickets are available for purchase from Friday, November 17 through Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
As a go-to carrier for business and leisure travelers, La Compagnie aims to offer unbeatable business-class fares to three of Europe’s most popular European destinations.
For the Blue Friday deal, travelers can choose from a range of flights, taking off between Newark (EWR) and Paris (ORY), Nice (NCE) or Milan (MXP) between December 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024. Options include long weekend getaways to Paris, winter skiing in the Italian Alps via Milan (on La Compagnie skis are free to check), or Spring Break in the South of France. The Blue Friday promotion requires instant ticketing and is nonrefundable. All taxes and carrier-imposed fees are included in the promotional rate. La Compagnie authorizes two checked bags per passenger free of charge; baggage fees apply for any additional bags.

This is a shot of a tournament game at a basketball court — colloquially known as ‘The Cage’ — in Greenwich Village neighbourhood. It’s a dynamic scene, and one I felt really captured the energy of the game. I showed up around mid-afternoon as I was meeting an art director for a dinner later that evening. It was pure luck a game was happening — I only intended to scout out the location for a little while. But the end-of-day light was great, and the hosts said I could take as many photos as I liked from inside the court. After moving around the back and sides of The Cage for a bit, I decided this was the shot I really wanted: the leading lines from directly behind the hoop were just too good to pass up.
It’s no stretch to say that New York City is the greatest arts destination in the States. The Big Apple is packed with cultural institutions, from the hallowed halls of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the city’s premier modern art museum, to the Museum of Broadway which celebrates New York’s theatre scene.
In September New York City introduced stringent restrictions on short-term rentals leading to news very quickly that Airbnb bookings in the city had “dried up”. And this is by no means new, cities like Barcelona and Berlin already have strict restrictions on short-term rental properties, requiring hosts to obtain a licence to operate.
I professed my love for Carnegie Diner in this column more than two years ago. Today, my fondness for the restaurant is as strong as ever and perhaps even more.
“He’s in here, in the kitchen every night and he’s smiling. He’s so happy to be doing this,” explains one of the managers of Café Carmellini. He is chef Andrew Carmellini, well known around New York the past 15 years for his respected but more casual restaurants Locanda Verde, Lafayette, The Dutch, Carne Mare and Bar Primi. This restaurant, which opened November 1st in the new Fifth Avenue Hotel, marks his return to fine dining with reinterpretations of French and Italian classics and as his most personal restaurant is the first one that bears his name. It’s been packed since opening night and looking around the Gilded Age style dining room with its oversized bronze and seeded glass chandeliers suspended from double height ceilings, plush blue banquettes and sculpted trees in the middle of the floor, the chef isn’t the only one smiling.
There’s no bad time to visit the Big Apple — but when winter takes hold, the city has an extra sheen of glitter. Department stores are brightened with kaleidoscopic light shows; a large ice rink springs up in Central Park; and the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree sits pretty in the plaza. If you’re lucky, the streets might even be blanketed in white, catapulting visitors into a scene of a festive Hollywood film.
Fall is always an exciting time in New York City, especially because there are so many new restaurant openings. Many tasty newcomers have opened in the last few months and they’re absolutely worth a visit. From buzzy nightlife boîtes to unique omakase destinations, here’s where you should eat before the year is over.
At this time of year, hotels all over the world feature unusual amenities. But this one in New York City is a great way to get in some meditation and creativity while you test out your artistic skills. And get a great holiday gift – for yourself.
If you ever fantasized about sailing on the original Queen Mary, and partake of the food from another era…well, you can, sort of, return to those meals of yesteryear.
