This Program Recycles Cans Left Along Mardi Gras Parade Routes in New Orleans and Donates the Proceeds to Charity—and Visitors Can Volunteer

New Orleans’ Mardi Gras might be known for its decadent, indulgent bacchanalia, but if you’re traveling to the Big Easy for the party, it doesn’t just have to be about the booze and the beads. Thanks to volunteer-run program Recycle Dat!, parade goers can give back to the city without straying too far from Bourbon Street.

American Airlines Debuts New Time-saving Feature for Connecting Passengers at London Heathrow Airport—What to Know

There’s a new way to save time at one of the busiest airports in the world.  Passengers flying on American Airlines from Dallas / Fort Worth Airport (DFW) and connecting at London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) will soon be able to go directly from their inbound plane to their gate, without needing a secondary security stop. International passengers frequently have to clear local security before continuing on their journey with a connecting flight, and this pilot program aims to simplify the travel experience.  American describes its participation in the program as a «founding partner» with the United States and United Kingdom governments, and the effort was described as «first-of-its-kind.» There was no guidance for how long the program would run for, and whether it would expand to additional airlines.  «There's no need to go through security again,» explains a promotional video of the new feature. Best of all, the feature also extends to luggage, so passengers with international connections in London do not need to get their baggage and have it re-screened for their next flight—they head straight to the next gate.   While the development is exciting for frequent flyers, the program does not extend to every flight. United Kingdom or Ireland flight connections are examples of two countries where it does not apply.

The Best Things to Do in Fort Lauderdale—And Where to Stay

If Miami and Palm Beach had a love child, it would be Fort Lauderdale. Quickly shedding its image as just a spring break destination, the city is redefining itself as a place that lacks the formality of its neighbor to the north (Palm Beach), but has all the trappings of the vibrant metropolis to the south (Miami). And while Fort Lauderdale is quickly catching up on the five-star luxury-resort front, the real-estate (and therefore hotel) prices have not yet approached the levels of Palm Beach's on Worth Avenue. Fort Lauderdale lacks pomp and doesn’t take itself too seriously: It’s a place that still feels accessible thanks to an abundance of public beaches, a lack of gated communities, and a culinary scene that won’t break the bank.

Most people commute in and out of New York City by train, ferry, or car. But some in the upper echelons of society can afford to fly above the chaos.
