Lindblad Expeditions is expanding its presence on the Amazon River by chartering the 42-guest ship Delfin III.
The company is also launching two new chartered Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic cruises along the Upper Amazon River and Peru.
Delfin III features 21 suites, an observation deck, an open-air whirlpool hot tub, an air-conditioned lounge, a spa and gym, and a bar. The ship was built locally and features hand-made furniture, art and textiles from the surrounding communities.
The vessel is the sister ship to Delfin II, which Lindblad Expeditions has chartered since 2010. The decision to charter Delfin III more than doubles the company’s occupancy in the region.
The new itineraries, which will debut in January 2026, are “Upper Amazon: A River Expedition,” a 6-day journey through Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, and “Wild Peru Escape: Amazon and Machu Picchu,” a 10-day voyage that includes stops in Lima, Cusco and at Machu Picchu.
“The untouched wilds of the Peruvian Amazon have long fascinated intrepid explorers and modern travelers alike, making our one-of-a-kind small-ship expeditions along the Upper Amazon particularly alluring to our guests,” says Trey Byus, chief expedition officer for Lindblad Expeditions. “Delfin III is a welcome addition to our chartered fleet. … This ship will allow guests to explore one of the world’s most extreme places in extreme comfort.”

Born in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, Nemonte Nenquimo, an Indigenous Waorani woman and activist, traveled a long and arduous path to become one of the earth’s fiercest defenders. In her new memoir, We Will Be Jaguars: A Memoir of My People, released September 17, she shares the story of that journey, charting her experience growing up in the forest—a place where months are measured in moons, shamans and plant medicines heal, and dreams and intuition guide one’s path in life—as well as the pain and trauma inflicted by missionaries, oil companies, and governments that have long attempted to erase Indigenous culture and exploit their homelands. Now a leading figure in climate activism, Nenquimo’s book is also the first of its kind to be written by an Indigenous person from the Ecuadorian Amazon, where ancestral knowledge and wisdom about life in the forest have been passed down orally for millenia and the tradition of storytelling never manifests on paper. “For us, stories are living beings,” she writes in the introduction. “Our stories have never been written down. Not like this.”
