When it comes to lifestyle hotels, few have as loyal a following as Kimpton. The brand is full of local flavor and trendy design, and it offers guests a real sense of place.
The brand's hotels range from a hip property in Tokyo's bustling Shinjuku district to a regal abode in London, plus full-on resorts like the Kimpton Seafire Grand Cayman.
New York City already has two Kimptons: the Kimpton Hotel Eventi in Chelsea and the Kimpton Hotel Theta in Times Square.
New York City will soon be home to a third Kimpton location, this time near Rockefeller Center in Midtown. It'll be developed by Extell Development Company, which has a mighty hospitality portfolio that includes the Hard Rock Hotel New York and the W Hotel Times Square.
Set to open next year, Kimpton Rockefeller Center will be a 33-story hotel designed by New York City's own SLCE Architects. SLCE is the architectural force behind some of the city's other luxury hotel projects, like the Four Seasons New York Downtown, the Park Hyatt New York and the revamp that transformed the iconic Crown Building into Aman New York.
Interiors will be designed by INC Architecture & Design, whose New York City projects include 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge and the TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), arguably one of the most recognizable hotels in town — if not the world.
Like most Kimptons, the new Midtown outpost will feature multiple dining outlets, a rooftop bar (which is sure to have incredible skyscraper views, based on its location at 48th street between Fifth and Sixth avenues), a lobby lounge, a fitness center, and communal gathering and meeting spaces.
If things go as planned, the property "will be one of the finest hotels, with a robust food and beverage program as well as iconic views of Rockefeller Center and the city skyline in one of New York City's most visited neighborhoods," Elysa Goldman, senior vice president of development at Extell, said.
For points and miles aficionados, it will also offer another way to save on stays in the often unreasonably expensive city. Plus, the hotel will be central to major tourist attractions, Broadway shows, some of the country's most magical holiday displays and major public transit lines that can help travelers reach every corner of the Big Apple.
If New York isn't quite your flavor, there are currently 75 Kimpton hotels open, including our favorites, plus another 57 scheduled to open within the next five years.

Autumn is a big season for hotels, especially those that represent the winds of change. In New York City, Standard International debuts its latest hotel concept, The Manner—which feels less like the hedonistic Standards of yore, and more like any of the city’s growing number of fabulous private-members clubs. Across the country in California, a beloved Laguna Beach icon enters an exciting new chapter. Salt Lake City is finally getting a new lifestyle hotel—just in time for another ski season. And the country’s first ultra-sustainable, “carbon positive” hotel opens its doors in Denver to set an example for hotels everywhere. There’s a lot happening, and a lot to explore—where will you go first? These are the most exciting new hotel openings of fall 2024.
There’s a refreshing fluidity and freeness to the best wine bars of New York City, which can appear in many forms—a sleek power-lunch hotspot, a cozy bar on the Lower East Side, or a tranquil backyard in Brooklyn. “To me, a wine bar serves limited food and is more focused on the beverage at hand,” explains Chase Sinzer, owner of wine bar Claud and Penny in the East Village. “It might feel more ‘casual’ in that it invites guests to maybe peruse the bottles on the wall or pour their own wine from an ice bucket.”
JetBlue made a major splash last week when it revealed that it will open its first-ever airport lounges in New York and Boston, a move that will bolster the allure of top-tier elite status in its TrueBlue loyalty program.
JetBlue announced on Thursday it would open its first-ever lounges, at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). The new premium spaces are set to debut in late 2025, first at the airline’s JFK Terminal 5 hub followed “soon after” by a JetBlue lounge space in Boston Logan’s Terminal C.
Working in social media at The Points Guy means that my "saved" tab on Instagram is full to the brim with travel inspiration, including recommendations for destinations, restaurants and experiences around the globe. But one destination has seemed to appear more and more frequently in the last couple of years: Paris.
JetBlue is making a major splash in the premium travel space with its first-ever airport lounges. The New York-based carrier will open two lounges starting in 2025, JetBlue said Thursday — one at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and another at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).
As the dog days of summer ease into a mild—if not slightly chilly—fall, autumnal joys like pumpkin spice, cider donuts, Halloween decorations, and cozy farmers’ markets, flood our moodboards and imaginations. Arguably one of the most anticipated fall activities is apple picking, as the leaves start to fall and classic crowd-pleasers like Galas and Honeycrisps fully blush into their red-yellow skins.

Pan Am is bringing the golden age of travel back once again by adding a second departure of its private jet trip next year retracing the airline’s original transatlantic routes.
