Ponant is launching winter cruises on Canada’s Saint Lawrence River.
Over the weekend, the ice breaker Le Commandant Charcot set sail on the first of five winter sailings planned for this season. The ship embarked from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and will stop in Cap-aux-Meules in Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Gaspé, Sept-Îles, La Baie (Saguenay) and Québec.
“This world premiere event aligns to perfection with our strategy to position the Saint Lawrence as an upmarket winter tourism destination ripe with a superlative blend of snowscapes, culture and Indigenous offerings—all in a single region,” says René Trépanier, executive director of Cruise the Saint Lawrence.
From now through early March, passengers aboard Le Commandant Charcot will join five total voyages ranging from 12 to 15 nights long.
Specially curated shore excursions will include e-bike rides, hikes along the cliffs at Fatima in Îles-de-la-Madeleine, snowshoe treks in Forillon National Park and more.
“We feel a deep connection to the Saint Lawrence region, which our ships have been visiting every summer for many years,” says Hervé Gastinel, president of Ponant Explorations Group. “These winter cruises aboard Le Commandant Charcot, completely unprecedented in nature, open the door to a new and unique experience, offering exceptional moments for our guests.”
Cruise the Saint Lawrence hopes Le Commandant Charcot’s journeys will inspire other cruise lines to consider winter trips in the region.
“The presence of Le Commandant Charcot in winter speaks to a key component of our strategic plan to transform the Saint Lawrence into a four-season international cruise destination,” says Trépanier. “In seeking to extend the cruise season, we aim to provide our member ports of call with a year-round revenue stream.”

Ever since the inception of The North Face brand in 1966, its function-forward designs have remained a household name—and for good reason. Not only is its collection of highly-technical outerwear at the forefront of innovation, it’s aesthetically pleasing, too, making it a fan favorite for consumers both on and off the hiking trails. So while I was on the hunt for a slip-on shoe that I could wear in-between workouts and while hopping from airport to airport over the last few months, I decided to start with the outdoor brand’s collection of off-grid slippers.
A major Florida airport has an expansion on the horizon. Tampa International Airport recently announced that its new $1.5 billion Terminal D will be anchored by Delta Air Lines, which will have access to at least six gates, and also operate a new airline lounge in the space. Delta currently operates a variety of flights from Tampa, including direct routes to its hubs in Atlanta, Boston, New York (JFK and LGA), and Minneapolis. It also operates an international route to Amsterdam, and will soon launch a direct flight to Austin, Texas.
Breeze Airways will ramp up its flying in a big way this spring and summer. The Utah-based low-cost carrier on Wednesday announced plans to launch service from three new airports by midyear.

I'm sitting on the 360-degree promenade deck aboard a Viking river cruise, with a glass of wine and a paperback, taking in the silver maples in the high afternoon sun on a bright August day. The water, blue-green and more beautiful than I had expected, hums with steamboats and pontoons. Staff members flit about, delivering cocktails and greeting guests like old friends. With its plentiful blond woods, the stylish ship has the kind of opulence you'd expect on the world's great waterways, from the Nile to the Seine. But I'm on board the 386-passenger Viking Mississippi, custom-built to traverse America's most famous river. Interest in sailing along it has been on the rise since the pandemic, but Viking is the first major luxury liner to offer a trip.
By 2 a.m. we were happily lost again. Dimly illuminated arches and doorways reflected off the green canal waters. My daughter, Vivian, 16, and I were on a lion hunt in Venice, an annual occurrence for six years now.
Less than two weeks after Winter Storm Cora grounded flights throughout the Gulf Coast, Winter Storm Enzo has caused hundreds of flight cancellations and even more delays.
As winter is blanketing New York City in its signature chill—think average January highs around 39°F and lows below freezing—there’s no better time to embrace the city’s growing wellness scene and visit a winter spa in NYC. While the city might not seem like much of a wellness destination on its surface, a slate of fresh spa programs and new wellness spaces are redefining how locals and visitors recharge. Not to mention, winter offers an opportunity to take advantage of some of New York City's best spas with fewer crowds than in the buzzy (and sweaty) summer months.
