Think about your favorite meal you’ve ever had while traveling. Maybe it was steamed crab drizzled in various tempting sauces in Bali. Fresh pasta in Bologna. Charred kangaroo tartare in Melbourne. Even when you narrow your options down to one country, choosing just one favorite dish is a daunting task. When we’re talking about the whole of the United States, It’s nearly impossible.
These destinations across the country are worth traveling for their culinary scenes alone. Here’s where –and what – you should eat when you get there.
Eating out in LA is more than tacos and breakfast burritos (but we won’t pass up on either of those). If you do go for one, go with a fresh take; Just What I Kneaded in Frogtown has mastered the vegan burrito with soyrizo, tofu egg scramble and avocado. Or tackle the lemon ricotta pancakes with fried chicken at Marelle in Santa Monica. At lunchtime, a historic hotdog from Tail O’ the Pup (who reopened their original 1946 stand in 2022) will keep you full and happy until dinner. When the sun goes, sink into a couch at East Hollywood’s Lolo Wine Bar, a glass of natural orange in hand.

In case you haven’t heard, Charleston’s been dubbed the food capital of the South, championing elevated southern classics and, of course, fresh oysters. It’s the birthplace of Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, whose products you may have seen in your local grocery store, but there’s nothing like the real thing fresh from their tiny King Street kitchen, topped with pimento cheese, gravy, jam or goat cheese. Keep the carbs coming at lunchtime with a piled-high sandwich from The Pass. Order the "Such a Nice Italian Boy" with pickled Calabrian chili relish and pistachio-loaded mortadella. You can’t leave Charleston without trying locally caught oysters and caviar, and downtown’s Chubby Fish has the raw bar for the job. Or, if you really want a luxurious meal, the five- and eight-course tasting menus at Honeysuckle Rose make it hands-down the place to go.

“As the unofficial capital of Latin America, Miami does one thing better than just about anyone else: it brings together an envious roster of Latin cuisines from around the Caribbean and South America in one gloriously simmering pot melding flavors with passion, chispa (spark) and a gustatory history of a tropical homeland an ocean away,” writes Miami native Jackie Gutierrez-Jones. The day begins with Cuban coffee, or cafecito, most likely from a venanita (walk-up window) like Little Havana’s Versailles. Take your pick of 26 vendors at Julia & Henry’s food hall, from Venetian

If you’ve experienced Utah's best skiing before and are in on the now not-so-secret handshake, you know that some of best skiing in the world is only 45 minutes away from Salt Lake City International Airport. (That means you can take a 7 a.m. flight from New York's JFK, land at 10:30-ish and be on the mountain by 1 p.m.) That and the state’s maxim—The Greatest Snow On Earth—broadcasted on every souvenir item possible isn’t overselling how preposterously light and fluffy the powder is here, or how much of it falls annually (up to 500 inches).

I never had a big plan to move to France.
Americans are set to experience a record-breaking Thanksgiving travel period this year, but some wet and snowy weather in the forecast may put a damper on those plans.
With world-class beaches, swathes of Amazon rainforest, history-packed cities and off-track wilderness plains, Brazil's colossal landmass packs a staggering diversity of nature, culture and adventure across its 8,000 kilometres of coastline and six distinct biomes.
To arrive at our list of the Best Places to Go in North America and the Caribbean in 2025, we painted with the broadest strokes possible. Quite literally, because these destinations test the physical bounds of the region. From Alberta to Cuba, and Denver to Greenland (which, yes, is technically part of North America), we’ve left no possibility unturned. Within this wide geographical stretch, there’s also a diversity of travel inspiration—from nature explorations to food and wine trails and cultural immersions. In Alaska, where the much-loved Glacier Bay National Park celebrates 100 years of being made a national monument, Native-run adventures abound on Kodiak Island, where small groups of visitors can share space with the largest subspecies of brown bear in the world. In Canada’s Banff and Lake Louise, a sprawling new wellness center at a beloved Canadian Rockies hotel will offer health and vitality alongside dazzling views. Out and away in Greenland, new access to parts previously untrammeled means more visitors can enjoy its majestic fjords and incandescent northern lights from land and sea. If that doesn’t feel soaring enough, there’s Space Coast, Florida, where you can claim your spot to witness historic rocket launches (and sample more earthly adventures like kayaking through its bioluminescent waters). It’s not all space travel and remote landscapes. If you’re drawn to more intimate experiences, perhaps you’ll consider Barbuda: the 62-square-mile gem in the eastern Caribbean Sea will come alive with fresh energy (there’s also a new Nobu Beach Inn arriving) as its airport reopens after the devastation of 2017’s Hurricane Irma. Or maybe Alexander Valley, California—where the establishment of a new wine region is underway—calls out to you, for Cabernet Sauvignons that rival the best of ‘em and gastronomic delights that range from Michelin-star meals to family-style spreads. In the end, whatever catches your fancy, we hope that you’ll bookmark this list, and use it to plan where you’ll visit in North America and the Caribbean in 2025. See you out there! —Arati Menon
Coming in at just under 20,000 square miles (that’s 20-percent smaller than West Virginia) Costa Rica packs an incredible array of things to see and do into a small area. Nestled between Nicaragua and Panama it has long Pacific and Atlantic ocean-facing coasts, volcanos, and rainforests galore. People are drawn there to hike and explore, surf, take a yoga retreat, eat fresh food, and reconnect with nature. It really is one of the best places on the planet to do all of those things, and to see rare wildlife. Here are some of our top picks for this Central American gem.

River cruising is “having a moment,” as Zane Kerby, president and chief executive officer of the American Society of Travel Advisors, said earlier this year at ASTA’s sold-out River Cruise Expo in Amsterdam.
