If Miami and Palm Beach had a love child, it would be Fort Lauderdale. Quickly shedding its image as just a spring break destination, the city is redefining itself as a place that lacks the formality of its neighbor to the north (Palm Beach), but has all the trappings of the vibrant metropolis to the south (Miami). And while Fort Lauderdale is quickly catching up on the five-star luxury-resort front, the real-estate (and therefore hotel) prices have not yet approached the levels of Palm Beach's on Worth Avenue. Fort Lauderdale lacks pomp and doesn’t take itself too seriously: It’s a place that still feels accessible thanks to an abundance of public beaches, a lack of gated communities, and a culinary scene that won’t break the bank.
And the action these days goes far beyond the well-known stretch of Las Olas Boulevard—Fort Lauderdale's original commercial and entertainment center of restaurants, shops, and galleries. The must-see spots have spread to a number of new districts like Victoria Park, Historic Sistrunk, and Flagler Village's arts district—an area that could draw comparisons to plenty of other up-and-coming neighborhoods for its converted post-industrial warehouses. The results are attracting a 20- and 30-something set looking for an edgier, more urbane South Florida. And the trick for visitors is mixing the shiny-new parts with the time-tested attractions. Here’s how to achieve the perfect balance at the city's best restaurants, hotels, and more—these are the best things to do in Fort Lauderdale.

An octopus dish at Evelyn's in the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale
The dining scene in Fort Lauderdale continues to level up. One relative newcomer to this next tier is MAASS, which opened in December 2023, and serves contemporary American cuisine–including a sophisticated chef’s table tasting menu that draws on Indian, Japanese, and French influences. At Evelyn’s, located at the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences, Chef Brandon Salomon is putting his own spin on Eastern Mediterranean with a dash of coastal Florida with inventive dishes like yellowfin tuna nayeh diced almost into a paste and served with puffed bulgur and pickled vegetables, and New Zealand lamb ribs with a glaze of tamarind and key lime.
One of Fort Lauderdale’s oldest (and best) standbys is Casa d’Angelo’s, whose owner, Amalfi Coast native Angelo Elio, is a culinary legend in Fort Lauderdale who has expanded his reach to top destinations like Boca Raton, Florida, and Aspen, Colorado. Elio isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel, and turns out masterly executed versions of the classics: Think perfectly fluffy gnocchi, expertly seasoned

Some things you realize only once you become a parent, including the fact that traveling with babies, toddlers, and kids becomes as much about the stuff as the memories you’ll make. One key item caregivers come to know quite intimately: the car seat—and there are many. There are infant car seats (suitable for babies), convertible car seats (those that work both forward- and backward-facing), booster seats (fit for bigger kids), car seats for everyday use that may not exactly transport well (read: they’re clunky, heavy, or otherwise difficult to move and reinstall, making them no good for travel), and there are travel car seats.
The Spanish singer Lola Flores once said, “Seville is like dreaming of heaven.” Her celestial comparisons are hard to argue with; whether for the elegant charm of its streets, the fiery pride of its people or the rich artistry of its culture, the capital of Andalucia is truly one of Spain’s most captivating destinations. It’s a city bursting with creativity too, from traditional crafts, music and dance to contemporary innovation in art and design. And now, looking to the future, Seville aims to become one of Europe’s leading cities for smart, sustainable tourism. Here are the best things to do in Seville right now.
While it can be difficult to find a reason to leave Paris even for just a few hours, the Champagne region is one of the best day trips you can take from the City of Lights; you can spend the day trying out all sorts of French bubbly and still make it back to the capital for your late-night reservation at Septime. The trip from Paris to Reims, one of the three main cities in Champagne (the other two are Epernay and Aÿ), is surprisingly easy—just 45 minutes by high-speed train or two hours driving. Like in many other French wine regions, you’ll want to plan ahead by making reservations at wineries and tasting rooms, and deciding how you’ll safely get from destination to destination once you’ve had a glass or three of wine. Read on to learn more about when to visit, where to stay, and most importantly, where to taste wine in the Champagne region.

This year is going to be a big one for northern lights fans. Traveling to see them, however, can add up pretty quickly—but there are still places you can go without breaking the bank.
