From Elliott's annoying little sister in "E.T." to Josie Grossie in "Never Been Kissed," Drew Barrymore has played some iconic parts. Now, in her latest role, she'll become a godmother to the cruise industry's newest mega-ship, MSC World America.
The actress and television host will officially name the ship at a ceremony on April 9, just prior to the vessel's first sailing from its brand-new homeport terminal – the largest in North America – at Port Miami.
"I absolutely love to travel – it fuels my soul – and being part of something that helps people set off on incredible adventures is just amazing," Barrymore said in a statement issued by MSC Cruises. "There's something so magical about cruises; they let you discover the world in this really fun, unexpected way. And to be able to name MSC World America and send the ship off with well wishes and good luck is such an honor."
"Drew is the perfect Godmother for MSC World America, and we are thrilled to continue to partner with her for this campaign," Suzanne Salas, EVP, Marketing, eCommerce & Sales, MSC Cruises USA, said in the statement. "She embodies our brand perfectly, with her exquisite style and grace, and her passion for the comfort and adventure we find through travel."
Barrymore, who currently hosts the "Drew Barrymore Show," will be joined at the ceremony by actor Orlando Bloom, who co-starred with her in a TV commercial for MSC, which first aired during the Super Bowl.
World America, the second in MSC's World Class of vessels, will be divided into seven districts, similar to the zones on Carnival Cruise Line's Excel Class ships and neighborhoods on Royal Caribbean's Oasis Class and Icon Class vessels.
Within those districts, the ship will offer 19 restaurants and 18 bars and lounges; shops along both an outdoor promenade and in a three-deck indoor galleria; a dedicated outdoor family space with an over-water swing thrill ride, water park, ropes course and playground; and the largest Yacht Club suite area in the Caribbean.
Following its debut, MSC World America will sail year-round seven- and 14-night Eastern and Western Caribbean voyages from Miami, visiting ports in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Honduras. Fares start from $629 per person ($90 per person, per night) for an inside cabin on a seven-night voyage in September 2025.

The sun had begun its leisurely descent over Bodrum Town on a September afternoon when I started going back over my list, making sure I hadn’t missed anything. A stroll along the marina, pausing to take a video of a forest of Turkish flags fluttering in the wind: check. Bites of kabak cicegi dolmasi and enginar kalbi on the terrace of a restaurant overlooking gulets bobbing in the harbor below: delicious. Browsing leather shoes and handwoven towels in the labyrinthine bazaar: my credit card statement would attest to that. Satisfied, I started mapping out the route back to the hotel, working in a stop at a posh Turkish delight shop a friend in New York had recommended. I turned to my mom, ready to lead her out of the bazaar, when I noticed her hesitate.
A swarm of mild earthquakes that saw thousands of residents and visitors leave Santorini, Greece, on flights and ferries appears to have petered off, according to experts.

When asked to weigh in on his travel in's and out's for 2025, associate editor Matt Ortile did not hesitate to declare the practice of “country counting” decidedly passé. If you're unfamiliar, a traveler engages in country counting when they present, usually on their Instagram story or some other form of social media, a list of destinations with adjacent boxes checked for each that individual has visited. If you don't think too hard about it, such posting is perfectly innocuous. But may we suggest that it only seems so because it is shallow and consumptive?
A warm and sunny climate, 5,000 km of coastline and world-class food and wine - it’s easy to see why Spain continues to be a top destination for tourists from all over the world.

When people think of St. Patrick’s Day parades in the United States, places like New York City, Boston, or Chicago usually come to mind. And while New York City has the largest and oldest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the country (it was established in 1762), the second largest belongs to a city much smaller in size: Savannah.

When someone is about to board a long flight, a list of things to worry about often runs through their head: Will I actually be able to fall asleep? How bad will my jet lag be? Do I have enough snacks? For some, the concern over blood clots might figure somewhere on that list. After all, flights longer than four hours can increase the likelihood that a clot (a clump of gel-like blood) will form in a deep vein and cause deep vein thrombosis, or DVT. The condition can lead to serious and potentially fatal outcomes if the clot breaks loose and gets lodged in a lung artery, preventing blood flow. When this happens, it’s called a pulmonary embolism.
