Uber is making it easier to travel for the holidays with discounts on rental cars, expanded car seat access, and more festive options to celebrate in style.
Customers who rent a car with Uber and choose the valet option over the holidays from Dec. 11 to Dec. 25 will receive $50 in Uber Cash as a bonus, the company shared with Travel + Leisure. The drop-off service is available in Washington D.C., New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, New Jersey, Miami, and Boston.
In addition, travelers throughout the country who rent a non-valet car with Uber will also receive $50 in Uber Cash when they choose the “Pay now & Save” feature. Uber Rent is available across the United States and partners with popular rental car companies like Avis, Hertz, and Sixt.
Uber is also making it easier to travel as a family by expanding access to car seats. Travelers in New York City, Los Angeles, Orlando, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Miami, and San Francisco who reserve a car seat in advance will be set up with a Nuna RAVA seat. And to make things even easier, Uber is offering $20 off two Car Seat rides with the promo code “FESTIVESEAT20” until Jan. 2.
But the festive cheer doesn’t stop there. Celebrate the holidays with a toast of Don Julio, Casamigos, or Bulleit Bourbon when customers order carolers on demand. The singing service is available to book for one special day on Saturday, Dec. 7, in New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, and Washington, D.C.

Last-minute decorators can also order Christmas trees or wreaths for delivery right to their door through the Uber Eats app anywhere in the country, or tap the gingerbread icon in the app to see a curated list of available gifts.
“Uber is thrilled to bring some holiday magic directly to your doorstep this season,” a spokesperson for Uber said in a statement shared with T+L. “Whether it’s the joy of Carolers singing to your family, the effortlessness of getting your Christmas tree delivered, or the convenience of finding the perfect gift with a few taps in the app, we’re making it easier than ever to focus on what truly matters — spending time with loved ones.”
The holiday offerings come as Uber is making an effort to be more sustainable, including rolling out a new “EV Preference" option, which allows travelers to automatically be matched with an electric vehicle when ordering a ride if one is nearby, along with offering a shared airport shuttle service.

Travelers destined for Hawaii's Big Island this holiday season are running into a roadblock before even boarding the plane thanks to a shortage of rental cars on the island – and price gouging of what remains. The issue made its way to Reddit earlier this week when a topic moderator in a Hawaii forum created a pinned post titled, “PSA: There are virtually no car rentals (including Turo) on Big Island for the next 2 weeks. Read this post for your options.” “There are essentially no more car rentals for Big Island during the Christmas holiday,” the post reads. “All rental agencies show as sold out, and according to recent posts Turo rentals are limited and listed as high as $2500 for a week.” It's worth noting that a representative from Hawaii Tourism Authority disputed this, telling Travel + Leisure that rental car prices are higher, “but cars are available at the major car rental companies at both Hilo and Kona airports, as we expect during high demand periods like the holidays.” However, searches done by Travel + Leisure on Hertz, Enterprise, Sixt, and Avis yielded no availability for pick-up at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole (KOA) in Kona — the island’s top resort destination for tourists — and just seven options on Turo, with the cheapest option being $274/day during the last two weeks of December. “Travel experts have always recommended booking holiday travel as early as possible to secure the best deals and inventory,” a representative from Turo told T+L. “Turo experiences seasonality, just like other major travel companies, and we frequently remind guests to book a car as soon as possible, especially in popular vacation destinations.” A representative from Enterprise Mobility also confirmed that holiday demand is at an all-time high. “With the busy holiday season upon us, the demand for vehicle rentals at Enterprise Mobility is strong across all three of our rental brands — Enterprise, National, and Alamo — and we expect this to continue through the end of the year. Hawaii is always a popular destination for holiday travelers – and our current reservations show this year is no different,” the representative said in an e-mailed statement. “From a pricing standpoint, our rates are determined by several supply and demand factors including location, dates of travel, length of rental, availability as well as when the reservation was made.”
As we close out the year, it's time for our annual predictions on what to expect from credit cards and rewards in 2025.

I didn't grow up in a family that traveled. The first time I vacationed outside the US was on my honeymoon, and just a few years after getting married, our first child was born, significantly slowing down our travels. It's only been since my kids got older that I've been traveling to spots I've always wanted to visit, like Italy and Mexico's Baja California peninsula .
