United Airlines will launch nearly 20 percent more flights to Florida this winter, flying to popular destinations like Miami, Tampa, and Orlando.
As part of the expansion, United will nearly double the amount of seats between Key West and cities like Chicago, Washington D.C., Houston, and Newark, United shared with Travel + Leisure. And on Nov. 28, the airline will fly a Boeing 737-700 aircraft to Key West International Airport for the first time ever.
Starting in December, the airline will also fly the Airbus 321neo aircraft, one of the company’s newest planes, on select routes to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Fort Myers.
“We know that November is when most people start their winter travel planning so we’re adding these flights to give customers more options than ever,” Mark Weithofer, United’s managing director of domestic network planning, said in a statement provided to T+L. “We’ve already begun to see record breaking demand for winter travel and whether customers are looking to unwind on the beach or hit the slopes, United is the clear choice for those planning their getaways.”
In addition, United will expand access to popular ski destinations across the country, including more nonstop flights from Newark to Jackson Hole, Vail, Steamboat, Telluride, and Big Sky. Currently, the airline flies to 11 different ski destinations from its hubs across the country.
Beyond the U.S., United is planning on increasing its schedule next summer, launching its largest summer flight schedule. As part of that, the airline will launch a new flight to Portugal's southernmost city, Faro, as well as bring back several popular seasonal summer flights, including a daily flight from Newark to Reykjavik.
The winter expansion comes as United plans to change up its boarding process, allowing travelers in window and middle seats to board earlier.
The airline has also upgraded its app to allow customers to automatically rebook if their flight was delayed or canceled as well as request meal, hotel, or ground transportation vouchers.
