With New Ways to Get to Florida, Arizona, Mexico, and More — Here Are the Airline Routes We're Most Excited About in January

The holidays are past and Old Man Winter is here to stay. It’s a good time to get away.
In Travel + Leisure’s latest highlights of the most exciting new routes, January has airlines big and small adding dozens of new sun runs to places like Florida and Mexico.
Alaska Airlines, JetBlue Airways, and Southwest Airlines are all adding new flights to Florida this month from, you guessed it, colder northern climes.
Alaska will connect Orlando, home of Disney World, to Boise and Sacramento. Boise flights take off on Jan. 8, departing the Idaho capital at 9:55 a.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays for the five-hour-and-20-minute trip to Florida. And Sacramento flights take off two days earlier, departing the California capital at 9 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for the five-hour hop to Orlando. Economy airfares for both routes start at $99 one way.
JetBlue is adding nonstops to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, and Orlando from its newest destination, Manchester, N.H. The flights from the Granite State to Fort Myers and Orlando takeoff on Jan. 23, and to Fort Lauderdale the next day. Economy airfares for the roughly three-and-a-half hour flights start at $89 one way in the first few weeks of service.
And Southwest will link Miami to Columbus and Pittsburgh, and West Palm Beach to Providence. The airline connects Miami with the Ohio capital beginning Jan. 11, and with Pittsburgh the next day; flights on both routes operate on various days of the week through April. The new Palm Beach-Providence route operates on Saturdays only from Jan. 11. Flights on all three routes are scheduled at around three-hours with one-way fares from Columbus and Pittsburgh starting at $90, and from Providence at $70.
Alaska and Delta Air Lines are adding new options to Mexico for sun lovers. Alaska will link Sacramento to Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, and New York’s JFK International Airport to Puerto Vallarta later this month. The Sacramento-Los Cabos flights debut on Jan. 6 with the three-hour trips taking off every day except Tuesdays and Wednesdays; Sacramento-Puerto Vallarta flights debut on Jan. 11 on Saturdays only. The New York route debuts on Jan. 8 with the six-and-a-half-hour flights on Wednesdays. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. One-way economy airfares start at $120 from Sacramento, and $168 from New York.
Delta is adding a new option to the famed white-sand beaches of Tulum and the southern Riviera Maya. The carrier will connect its Detroit hub and the Mexican airport, which opened in April, in just over four hours on Saturdays beginning Jan. 11.
