July was a whirlwind — and, well, the news was nonstop. Between politics, that wild global computer fiasco (you know, the one that hit airlines hard) and the Olympics starting, you might have missed some big news on the hotel front.

Snaptrip Group acquires The Hotel Guru for a seven-figure sum, expanding its global reach and strengthening its position in the hotel sector.
Snaptrip Group, the UK’s collection of accommodation marketplaces (including LateRooms, Snaptrip and Dog Friendly Cottages), announce the acquisition of international hotel website The Hotel Guru for a seven-figure sum. This strategic move strengthens Snaptrip Group’s position in the hotel sector and significantly expands its reach across the globe.
“We are thrilled to welcome The Hotel Guru to the Snaptrip Group family,” says Matt Fox, CEO of Snaptrip Group. “This acquisition represents a significant step forward in our mission to become the go-to platform for all things accommodation in the UK and beyond. The Hotel Guru’s established reputation as a trusted source for curated hotel reviews, with its team of expert reviewers, perfectly complements our existing offerings.”
The Hotel Guru has carved a niche for itself over the years, becoming a reliable resource for travellers seeking hotels that prioritise guest experience. The platform boasts a large international presence, particularly in the US, which presents an exciting opportunity for Snaptrip Group to enter into new markets, helping to capture a wider audience.
“We are excited to join forces with Snaptrip Group and contribute to their continued success,” said Hugh Graham-Watson, who will remain MD of The Hotel Guru. “This partnership allows
us to leverage Snaptrip Group’s strong UK presence while offering our international customer base access to a wider range of exceptional accommodation options.”
Backed by Bestport Private Equity and Forward Partners, Snaptrip Group began acquiring businesses in 2017 with the purchase of Last Minute Cottages Ltd. Since then it has added LateRooms, Hot Tub Hideaways and more recently Independent Cottages to its portfolio, all contributing to its aggressive year on year top-line growth and very pleasing levels of profitability.
The addition of The Hotel Guru expands the Snaptrip Group’s footprint in the hotel sector, following the successful acquisition of the LateRooms assets after it fell into administration in 2019. With a determined effort to restore the brand and its reputation as a major presence in the UK hotel industry, Snaptrip Group relaunched LateRooms earlier in 2024.
Fox elaborated: “The travel sector is a constantly changing and challenging market to be in at the moment, especially post Covid, and with economic and governmental volatility. Being able to spread our presence around hotel and self-catered urban and rural accommodation offerings in the UK, and now abroad with the acquisition of The Hotel Guru, is a determined effort on our part and allows us to

Last September, my husband and I flew to New York City and headed to the Ridge Hotel on the Lower East Side to spend a few days before a cruise. Since the Ridge had “contactless check-in,” we had received two codes to get in the front entrance and our room. When we arrived after midnight, we had no problems getting into the hotel with the first code. But we couldn’t get into our room with the second code. There were no staff on duty, so we called the hotel’s number. But the woman who answered could not help and subsequent calls went to voice mail. I also sent messages through the Booking.com app, the online travel agency with which we made the reservation, but the staff there couldn’t solve the issue. So we spent the night in the hotel’s breakfast room, where the restroom also required a code that we did not have. The next morning, the hotel staff sent an apologetic message with the right code, and promised us a refund for that night, about $215. But we never got the money, even though the hotel insists they returned it to Booking. Can you help?
I didn't know it the first time I stepped foot (or rolled, really) into The Mirage, but the stroller I was sitting in was entering hallowed ground in the hotel world. I was 4 years old, it was 1996 and my parents had just driven my brother, my grandma (Magaw, as we called her) and me from the Texas Panhandle to the Las Vegas Strip to celebrate Christmas in style.
