Elliott Investment Management is all gas and no brakes in its efforts to boost Southwest Airlines' business potential, going so far as to launch a new podcast series.
The fund manager, which has approximately 11 percent economic interest in Southwest Airlines Co., has launched Stronger Southwest. The podcast will feature one-on-one conversations with Elliott's director nominees.
The news comes on the heels of Elliott calling for a special shareholder meeting to overhaul the airline's board on December 10.
The initial episode features nominee Gregg Saretsky, who boasts a nearly 40-year aviation career that included serving as CEO of WestJet.
"If a company loses its way, it loses its culture. You really have to be mindful of both those things simultaneously," says Saretsky, adding that "great union relationships are founded on really making the investment of ensuring that issues are brought in a timely fashion and dealt with."
The Stronger Southwest Podcast can be found at StrongerSouthwest.com/podcast or on Apple, Spotify, YouTube and everywhere else podcasts are heard.
The new series comes in the wake of a dramatic transformation plan for the airline.
