Ontario, Canada's second largest province, is home to charming small towns, gorgeous landscapes, vibrant multiculturalism, parks, nature trails, and plenty of ways to celebrate autumn. From apples to pumpkins and cranberries to garlic, Ontario is packed with fun, spooky, and delicious ways to celebrate the fall harvest. Whether you are looking to load up on veggies from farmers markets, pick your own right from the earth, scare your bestie at ghostly Halloween events, or have a magical family day among glowing pumpkins, these five Ontario attractions will keep you busy all season long.
Apples and autumn go together. From baking apple pies, drinking hot apple cider, or munching on fresh apples from the tree, now is the time to do it. The orchard at Chudleigh’s is open for apple picking and you must pre-purchase tickets online. Chudleigh’s Farm opened to the public back in 1967 and has grown into a huge and popular farm beloved by Ontario families. They grow over 18 varieties of apples and their farm spans over 47,500 trees across 60 acres in their orchard. Peak picking season is September and October and their website lists each apple variety in detail. Chudleigh’s is also home to thrilling slides for kids (and kids at heart), nature trails, straw mazes, sand pits, picnic areas, and a café. They are open daily and located in pretty Halton Hills.
If you are looking for a ghostly after-dark Halloween themed adventure pack up the car and take a road trip to Pumpkinferno At Upper Canada Village. This outdoor exhibit shows off over 7,000 hand carved illuminated pumpkins designed by talented young artists from Eastern Ontario. The orange glowing masterpieces are situated along the streets and paths of the historic landscape of Upper Canada Village. This spectacular award-winning event adds new exhibits each year and includes harvest dining, seasonal treats, shopping, and a kids play area. Upper Canada Village was founded in 1961 and is one of the biggest living history sites in Canada. Book tickets to Pumpkinferno online.
Continuing the Halloween theme but not for the faint of heart, Fort Fright At Fort Henry will have you screaming in the shadows. Fort Henry is an ancient fort that was built from 1832 to 1837 to protect the naval dockyard at Point Frederick, the entrance of the Rideau Canal, and the town of Kingston, and replacing an existing fort from the war of 1812. But each year as darkness descends on Fort Henry at Halloween, this historic site turns into what feels like the set of a horror movie with creatures, monsters, and haunting scenes. Live actors are lurking in the spooky tunnels and hallways ready to test your fear factor. It’s the perfect setting to celebrate Halloween with friends and if you
