The Pridwin Hotel & Cottages, is leaning into its whimsical and retro charm by hosting an epic “Dirty Dancing” themed weekend this September. Head to Shelter Island from Friday, September 8 through Sunday, September 10 for a getaway to The Pridwin, where a white wood exterior, playful nostalgia, and summer camp feel all replicate the Kellerman’s ethos, 60 summers past that iconic 1963-set dance sequence.
The resort’s 33 guestrooms and 16 luxurious camp-cabin-esque private cottages will host the Dirty Dancing Package, which will include a variety of themed events and activities inspired by Baby and Johnny. An honorary guest, Eleanor Bergstein, writer and co-producer of the original “Dirty Dancing” film, will also be on-site for a schedule intimate conversation.
“I look forward to sharing stories about the writing and filming of Dirty Dancing,” said Bergstein, writer and co-producer of the film, “and it's always a pleasure meeting new friends of the story.”
Special touches to turn The Pridwin into Kellerman’s include a vinyl record player, playing the “Dirty Dancing” soundtrack, waiting for guests in their room as they arrive (and theirs to take home); a Dirty Dancing Happy Hour, featuring a themed "I Carried a Watermelon" cocktail and light bites; a poolside screening of “Dirty Dancing” complete with movie snacks; a “She’s Like The Wind” Sunset Cruise on The Pridwin's private boat; a full American breakfast in the Terrace on Saturday morning ; a "Hungry Eyes" barbeque buffet dinner on the Pridwin’s Great Lawn; I've Had the Time of My Life" farewell brunch on Sunday Morning; and more surprises are promised.
“I am thrilled to see this weekend getaway come together – with our picturesque waterfront setting and retro charm, The Pridwin is bringing the essence of this iconic movie to life. Picture yourself stepping into the magic of 1963, where the playful nostalgia and summer camp atmosphere will captivate your heart,” said Curtis Bashaw, co-founder of Cape Resorts, which owns The Pridwin. “Guests are going to create new memories, and experience ‘the time of their lives.’”
The Pridwin itself is a tribute to Shelter Island history. Inside, guests will find an impressive collection of historic ephemera, including archival signage, vintage photographs, and memorabilia from its early days. Each guest room features nautical accents throughout—a nod to The Pridwin’s location overlooking Crescent Beach. The Pridwin Cottages offer a spacious stay, complete with private decks, living areas, and functional gas fireplaces.

Large wildfires burning across the islands of Maui and Hawaii, fueled by intense winds, turned scenic beach destinations into smoky, catastrophic scenes on Wednesday. The fast-moving flames have scorched hundreds of acres, destroyed homes and businesses, and prompted a series of evacuation orders, road closures, and power and cellphone service outages. At least six people have died.
While summer vacations may still be underway, travelers planning for a Labor Day Weekend end of the season may want to take new data into account. The holiday weekend, which traditionally marks the end of the summer travel season, will see travelers explore popular travel hotspots both in the United States and around the world. Friday, Sept. 1 and Monday, Sept. 4 will be the busiest days for airport traffic as flyers jet to and from their destinations around the world, according to new data from Chase Travel shared with Travel + Leisure this week.
I was 20 years old and had J Robert Oppenheimer's house all to myself. From the porch of the small yellow cottage, four steps led down to the beach where coconut trees swooped low at the water's edge and the Evian-clear Caribbean gently lapped the sugar-white sand. Day after day, I'd hike here after work to marvel at the parrotfish, butterflyfish and hawksbill turtles that glided between the shallow coral reefs, never once seeing another soul.
If “summer travel” triggers images of beachside idylls and Disney theme-park thrills, you likely drive rather than fly to your summertime vacation spots. Because summer air travel is a very different picture, indeed.

America’s newest wicked-long flight is the Boston-to-Honolulu route from Hawaiian Airlines, which is now the longest flight in the country at 5,095 miles. And it’s not a fluke—the new Hawaiian flight is the longest nonstop route in the United States ever. The journey takes a whopping 11 hours 40 minutes when flying to the islands, but it will only take 10 hours and 15 minutes to get back to reality.
Looking for a reliable source of Brexit travel information? You’re not alone—the U.K.’s own lawmakers are still asking questions about the issue of borders and free travel after Brexit. As of January 31, 2020, the United Kingdom officially has left the European Union. But what’s to come still remains unclear: For the rest of the year, the U.K. will remain in a “transition” period, meaning nothing will change between now and 2021 in regards to borders and other travel-related items. Meaning, if you have a summer vacation planned to the U.K. or Europe, you shouldn’t worry about anything changing.
It’s taken longer than anyone expected thanks to lots of FAA red tape and a 35-day government shutdown, but Southwest has finally started selling flights from the West Coast to Hawaii. Here are the Hawaii flight route details so far, and what it all means.
