Sarah Dusek first spent time in Africa in her twenties, as an NGO worker in rural Zimbabwe. The experience, she says, “ignited a profound appreciation for Africa’s landscapes and cultures, and for the resilience of its people.” In 2009, she and her husband, Jacob Dusek, co-founded Under Canvas, a zero-waste luxury glamping outfitter with camps across the U.S., modeled after African safaris. Now based between Montana and Cape Town, the couple have brought the lessons they learned with their first hospitality venture back to the continent that inspired it. In South Africa’s Soutpansberg Mountains, surrounded by baobab trees in the province of Limpopo, Few & Far Luvhondo opened Jan. 1 with six Cliff suites: Inside, curved beams recall tree trunks, and earth-toned patterns take their cues from local foliage and rock formations. The property’s vantage point means you might catch glimpses of giraffes and elephants from your terrace. Chef Nhlakanipho Sokhela serves seasonal tasting menus in the lodge’s restaurant, along with alfresco barbecues and gourmet bush picnics. For even loftier views, the lodge plans to unveil a 25-mile-long aerial experience called Solfari. Via a solar-powered cableway inspired by clusters of weavers’ nests, guests can silently soar above the UNESCO-designated Vhembe Biosphere Reserve’s mountains and rivers to spy on herds of buffalo and stalking leopards far below.

If you have an AvGeek, an outer space enthusiast or an avid reader in your life and you can't decide what to give them as a holiday gift, consider buying this new book by photographer Ted Huetter. In "Waiting for Spaceships: Scenes from a Desert Community in Love with the Space Shuttle," Huetter documents the thousands of people who would gather to welcome the space shuttles on their return to Earth.
The moment the bush plane touched the runway at the Sasakwa Airstrip in Tanzania, I knew the safari experience at Singita Sabora Tented Camp would be different.

I clearly remember a pivotal moment during my first safari in Kenya with my wife. We traveled across the country, often flying into luxurious, five-star safari camps on small chartered planes. We had already witnessed the Great Wildebeest Migration, spotted the Big Five with ease on game drives, and shared curdled milk from a calabash with Maasai warriors. Now, nearing the end of our trip, a Samburu warrior in a red and blue checkered shuka led us up a hill that looked remarkably like Pride Rock from The Lion King. We were headed to one of our final sundowners.

Travel is often a chance to escape our stressors, but the ever-growing genre of Jewish-heritage tourism dares to contradict everything we associate with a vacation. A Real Pain, out now in limited release, looks suffering straight in the face with a trip that is anything but relaxing. Cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Kieran Culkin) set off together to Poland as a sort of tribute to—and chance to better understand—their grandmother Dory, who survived the Holocaust there. The two cousins were once thick as thieves, but have become increasingly estranged in adulthood. In Poland, they join a small tour that guides them around the cities of Warsaw and Lublin to important sites of Jewish life and remembrance, including a visit to the Majdanek concentration camp.
I've always dreamed of going on safari to see exotic animals and bright sunsets from the bush. However, I feared this bucket-list item would require sleeping in an awkward tent with no running water in sight.
Grand Canyon Glamping Resort, near the West Rim of the Grand Canyon in Meadview, Arizona, just announced a new lodging option for guests following a trend sweeping the glamping world: geodesic “Stargazing domes,” with views of the west rim of the Grand Canyon. The new domes are among the priciest lodging options at the resort, with rates starting at $250 on Tuesday nights and going up to $450 per night on weekends. Domes without showers are a bit cheaper, starting at $200, though campers can also rent a totally unfurnished, unheated dome, if they have their own camping gear and are just looking for a bit of sheltered privacy for the night. The resort is spread across 10 acres, allowing for mostly unobstructed views from each dome

From my first camping trip at four months old to my most recent hiking expedition in the Adirondacks, I've spent the majority of my life camping and hiking my way through the world—laying under the stars in a tent across 15+ US states and Canadian territories, exploring dozens of national and state parks, hiking up mountains and through forests, and otherwise enjoying (or being subjected to) every type of weather, terrain, and wildlife. Being the youngest member of an enthusiastically outdoorsy family means that I know a thing or two when it comes to picking out gifts for those that prefer to spend their time surrounded by nature. Whether you're looking for something practical, like a new pair of hiking socks or boots, or want to gift something a little more exciting, like a sleek, inspirational coffee table book or a Stanley pour-over set, these are some of the best camping gifts for hikers, campers, and backpackers right now.
I am just going to come out and say it, having a hot shower out in the desert while camping is an absolute cheat code. I feel as calling something indescribable is often overstated and overused in the modern day social media era, however, I am going to state just that, a hot shower at the end of a day spent hiking, exploring and adventuring is indescribable.
