American Airlines will launch a new flight to Turks and Caicos next year, marking the first-ever direct flight from the United States to the island of South Caicos.
The new year-round route will take off on Feb. 15, 2025, and will fly twice each week on Wednesdays and Saturdays from Miami, American confirmed to Travel + Leisure. The new flight will operate on an Embraer 175 aircraft with room for 76 passengers, including 12 first class seats.
“American has flown to Turks and Caicos for more than 30 years and we are thrilled to announce the only nonstop service from the U.S. to South Caicos starting next February,” Jason Reisinger, American’s managing director of global network planning, said in a statement shared with T+L. “Customers from across North America will now have faster and more convenient access to this idyllic island and all that it offers.”
American already operates flights to Turks and Caicos’ main island of Providenciales.
The island’s tourism authority, Experience Turks and Caicos, told T+L the new flight “will strengthen Turks and Caicos’ position as a multi-island destination.”
“In 2025, it will be easier than ever for travelers to experience the secluded island and its rich history, vibrant marine activities including world class bone fishing, and pristine white sand and turquoise waters,” the tourism authority added.
One-way flights from Miami International Airport (MIA) to South Caicos Airport (XSC) start at $213, according to Google Flights.
Turks and Caicos is a British overseas territory made up of 40 different islands and cays in the Caribbean. The islands are very sought after thanks to the bright turquoise waters, incredible scuba diving, top-notch beaches, and some of the best all-inclusive resorts for families. They’re also considered one of the best islands in the Caribbean to retire in.
High season is from about December to April when the weather is best but with an average of 350 days of sunshine, there’s never really a bad time to visit.
South Caicos sits at about 18 square miles, according to the tourism authority, and is a 90 minute ferry ride from Providenciales.

Passengers traveling from Austin will soon have fewer options for direct flights on a popular carrier. American Airlines recently confirmed to Travel + Leisure it will be discontinuing several routes, including nonstop flights to Las Vegas (LAS), Orlando (MCO), New Orleans (MSY), Reno (RNO) and Palm Springs (PSP). «As part of the continuous evaluation of our network, American will reduce service from Austin (AUS) starting in October,” an American Airlines spokesperson shared with T+L. “We’re proactively reaching out to impacted customers and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.” The last scheduled day for the non-stop flights to Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Orlando is Sunday, October 6. The Reno and Palm Springs route previously operated as a seasonal service and will not be returning. American has aggressively modified its route network to increase business objectives, as company leadership previously outlined in an investor briefing. “We are taking this challenge head-on, with clear and decisive actions to deliver on a strategy that maximizes our revenue and profitability, and importantly, one that makes it easy for customers to do business with American,” American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said in a July 2024 earnings call.
