After a full restoration, the Loch Ness Monster roller coaster reopened at Busch Gardens Williamsburg over the weekend.
In addition to replacing 900 feet of the roller coaster’s signature steel track, riders will encounter new sights, sounds and surprises during their journey through the Scottish terrain.
On Loch Ness Monster: The Legend Lives On, the adventure begins with a new themed entrance and ride platform. The quest continues during the lift hill climb, guided by an all-new soundtrack created just for the monster.

While braving the first drop, Busch Gardens visitors catch a glimpse of something monstrous lurking under the water before coming face-to-face with the monster in a shadowy cave lair.
“We gave our Members the opportunity to be the first to experience the reimagined Loch Ness Monster during exclusive Member ride time this past week, and they loved it,” Busch Gardens Williamsburg President Kevin Lembke said. “For many of our Members, Loch Ness Monster was their first roller coaster.”
“These Members and their families, alongside a new generation of thrill seekers returned for a preview of our newest attraction,” Lembke continued. “Now, we can't wait to share this thrill with all our visitors today and for many years to come."
To celebrate the reopening of the Loch Ness Monster roller coaster, Busch Gardens held a Grand Opening Ceremony, complete with a traditional Scottish bagpipe performance and a ceremonial first ride on the world's first interlocking loop coaster. Long-standing members of the American Coaster Enthusiasts joined Busch Gardens leadership and local dignitaries for the ribbon cutting and inaugural ride.

Any list of European gardens must begin with Italy, even though their immaculate form, symmetry and reliance on non-flowering evergreen structure might jar with the modern yearning for pollinator-friendly naturalism. The Italian garden reached a peak during the Renaissance and has barely changed since. Its fundamental principles remain elegance, charm and decadent relaxation. Giardino Giusti, in the northern city of Verona and once well known among the influential families of 16th-century Europe, exemplifies this timeless artistry. Drift along its green cypress alley past the commanding statues of Apollo and Adonis, get lost in the 18th-century labyrinth and breathe in the heady aroma of citrus blossom. giardinogiusti.com, adult €15, child €9
Last spring, my wife and I embarked on an extended family holiday through Spain, taking our two young children on a month-long road trip around a country we didn’t know well but quickly came to love, for its ancient walled cities and diverse landscapes, its full-bodied wine and its warm-hearted people.
Varenna is the perfect Italian village, from its hilltop castle to the shore of Lake Como. Easily accessible by train or ferry, it is host to a spectacular botanic garden. The meandering Passeggiata degli Innamorati – the Lovers’ Footpath – brings you in 20 minutes from the ferry to Villa Monastero (entry €10, open March-November). With pillars and pergolas, palm trees and pines framing views of the deep blue lake and mountains beyond, scented by citrus and herbs, the garden is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. And there’s a bar. Perfect happiness.Maartje Scheltens

On a dark night in February, east of the 5 Freeway, south of the 134, down the street from the so-called Gentlemen’s Club, glows the blue neon sign: Moonlight Rollerway. These are the industrial hinterlands of Glendale, a tidy enclave in the rambling city-state that is Los Angeles, and here, among plumbing supply warehouses and an Amazon delivery van lot, sits a squat cinder-block building, an unexpected portal.
