Southwest Airlines is making it easier to earn status for next year with a limited-time tier acceleration program.
The airline is making qualifying flights worth more and allowing travelers to earn points through reward travel. It will also permit them to earn with Rapid Rewards partners in an effort to help travelers earn the airline’s A-List and A-List Preferred tier status for 2025. To take advantage, customers must register for the promotion online and either fly or make qualifying purchases by Nov. 30.
«We're bringing back this popular promotion to give our Rapid Rewards Members an extra boost to reach our coveted A-List and A-List Preferred tier status faster, so they can take advantage of all the benefits that our Rapid Rewards program has to offer, such as earlier boarding, boosted points, free same-day standby, and same-day change,» Jonathan Clarkson, the vice president and chief product officer at Southwest Airlines, said in a statement. «A-List Preferred Members can enjoy all the same benefits plus free WiFi, and premium drinks.»
Additionally, Southwest is upping the game for qualifying credit card purchases. Southwest Rapid Rewards credit card members can earn 2,000 tier qualifying points for every $5,000 in purchases made with their Rapid Rewards Priority, Premier, and Plus Consumer credit cards, as well as with the Premier, Plus, and Performance Business credit cards from Chase. This is in addition to the tier qualifying points they already earn.
Travelers can also earn points with qualifying purchases made with Rapid Rewards car rentals, hotel bookings, and other Rapid Rewards partners. Each base point will count as one tier qualifying point through Nov. 30, up to a maximum of 5,000 total tier qualifying points.
In addition to these status levels, Southwest offers a popular Companion Pass program, which allows holders to designate one companion to fly with them nearly for free, simply paying taxes and fees for each flight. Travelers can earn a Companion Pass by either flying 100 qualifying one-way flights or earning 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year.
