Royal Caribbean has just formally named its newest floating vacation experience, Utopia of the Seas, in an official naming ceremony that took place on July 15 at Port Canaveral in Orlando, Florida.
As the new ship’s godmother, GRAMMY-winning artist Meghan Trainor performed the christening in the company of other special guests, crew members, media members, trade partners, and 52 of her fans (one for every weekend of the year) and their guests who won their spot as part of a giveaway contest.
In serving as godmother, Trainor upholds a longstanding maritime tradition of bestowing good luck upon the brand-new vessel, and safekeeping to its crew and the millions of guests who will sail aboard Utopia in the years to come.

“It’s an incredible honor to join the Royal Caribbean family as godmother of Utopia of the Seas and set the tone for the parties to come,” said Trainor. “The best part is that we get to bring that weekend energy to the stage with my family and fans. What’s better than being on vacation with the people you love and dancing to your favorite music? Let’s make some beautiful memories and get this party started!”
After the ceremony, Trainor kept the party going by performing one of her hits songs in the ship’s iconic open-air AquaTheater. The performance kicked off Utopia’s preview sailing, an exclusive three-night celebration that will take invitees roundtrip from Orlando to Royal Caribbean’s award-winning private island destination in The Bahamas, Perfect Day at Coco Cay. There, the festivities will continue with a naming party joined by the newly named godmother. The whole affair is part of the lead-up to the new at-sea vacation vessel’s official July 19 debut in Port Canaveral.
Utopia will then start a season of short roundtrip sailings from Orlando to Perfect Day at Coco Cay and Nassau, with three-night vacations on weekends and four-night voyages during the week.
Utopia of the Seas, the line’s latest Oasis Class vessel, is nearly 1,200 feet long, weighs over 236,000 gross tons and is capable of carrying 5,668 guests and 2,290 crew members. Standing 18 decks high, the ship features more than 20 types of accommodations, more than 40 ways to dine, drink and party, eight distinct neighborhoods, two casinos, five swimming pools, the largest and longest dry slide at sea, and several other brand firsts.
Following Icon of the Seas, Utopia is Royal Caribbean’s second ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the cleanest-burning marine fuel available, and the first in Oasis Class to boast LNG propulsion. As such, the ship further
