The world of credit card benefits is always changing and evolving. This month, there are more changes to know about, but they are not all disappointing. Some new cards offer impressive points-earning bonuses, and others have added cash back or statement credits to the roster. Others have reduced or replaced popular card perks. Here’s what you need to know when reaching for the right card on the right purchase this month.
For a simple $95 annual fee, this card packs in some points-earning value and even comes with a $50 annual airfare credit (further reducing the annual fee to $45 for those that purchase airline tickets). What will truly appeal to miles and points fans is its hefty bonus earning for such a low annual fee. It comes with 5x points on hotel spending, 4x points for airline purchases, 3x points on all other travel and dining purchases plus one point on everything else. It does not charge foreign transaction fees, but does come with some travel protections, rare for a card with such a low annual fee. Cardholders can redeem points by transferring them to a bevy of other programs. These include Air France-KLM, Avianca, British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Choice Privileges.
Typically, cardholders earn 12 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent at Hilton family properties. Starting this year, cardholders can earn $60 in statement credits each quarter (up to $240) on all Hilton family purchases. An exciting new benefit though is that the card earns 5 Hilton points per dollar on all purchases up to $100,000 per calendar year. Once that amount is reached, all purchases earn 3 Hilton points. The card also comes with elite status perks including Hilton Honors Gold elite status plus a new benefit: National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive car rental status. For those that want higher Hilton Honors status, cardholders that reach $40,000 in annual spending will be automatically upgraded to Hilton Honors Diamond, the highest tier. At the same time, the card is losing Priority Pass perks and elite status night credits for reaching certain thresholds. Its new annual fee is $195.
The Chase Ink Business Cash credit card now has more reasons to sign up including new cash back bonuses after reaching spend thresholds. In the first three months of holding the card, cardholders can earn $350 cash back once they spend $3,000 on purchases. There’s another tier, which gives cardholders more time to reach new card bonuses. They can earn an additional $400 in cash back once they spend $6,000 in the first six months. New cardholders that have an active Chase Business Checking account will receive a 10% one-time bonus on all spending in their first year of having the card. This is on top of existing cash back bonuses
