I moved to Vienna, which was named the most livable city in the world, to finish my master's degree. I found the locals unfriendly and couldn't connect with the culture.

Halfway through my international journalism program at City, University of London, COVID-19 hit. I was forced to move back in with my parents in rural Wales for three months. I then made the impulsive decision to fly to any airport that would take UK travelers. I found myself on the last flight out to Belgrade, Serbia.

Luxury Hotels In Tuscany Don’t Get Much Better Than This: Borgo Santo Pietro

Collaborators Jeanette Thottrup and Anna Buonocore joke that they’re oil and water. “I love herbs,” says Thottrup, the co-owner of the gorgeous Italian estate Borgo Santo Pietro, who traces her passion for botanicals back to a job with Neil’s Yard in London. “And I love chemistry,” says cosmetic chemist Buonocore, who trained in pharmacy before taking a job on the property. But eventually they “emulsified.”

You Can Ride This Train for 1,851 Miles Across Australia's Hills, Plains, Red Centre, and Topical Top End

Unlike the Eurostar that takes passengers from London to cities on the European continent in record time, The Ghan, one of Australia’s four luxurious trains, is not something you book because you need to get from point A to point B. It may sound like the biggest travel cliché there is, but in this case it’s true: Riding The Ghan is all about the journey and not really about the (albeit lovely) destination. You go on the Ghan because you want to see and experience parts of Australia you’d never get to go to otherwise, at a slow pace, and in the comfiest, most lavish setting you could find.

The Most Remote Region in England Is Also One of the Sunniest and Most Beautiful

It may be hard to believe, but there’s a place in England where the sand is fine and white, the sea is turquoise blue, and the sun shines more than just about anywhere else in the country. In this dream-like place, you can surf, you can sunbathe (and even get a tan), you can hike coastal paths, valleys, and moors, and you can stuff you face with cream teas and pasties. You guess it, Cornwall, England, is a must-see when in Britain. Lucky for you, it’s only a direct train ride away from London.

5 of the best places to visit in the Hebrides

The rugged landscapes of the Outer Hebrides, off Scotland’s west coast, may be sparsely populated, but there’s a deep human history here, from ancient stone circles to traditional Gaelic culture. These interconnected islands have shaped a distinct way of life, not just in the Harris Tweed and whisky distilleries that travellers encounter, but also in the daily routines of remote fishing communities. Spanning over 150 miles, this island chain is stitched together by causeway, bridge, road and boat, meaning visitors can pick their own method — car, bike, bus or ferry — to make the most of this extraordinary destination.
