If you're based in the US like me, June and July are some of the most expensive months to fly internationally, so I think summer is a great time to explore what my own country has to offer.

When it comes to all-inclusive vacations, I've seen it all — from mega resorts the size of small cities to sex-themed hotels where clothing is optional.
But after a $1,400 five-night stay, one resort stands out for me: Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya.
The dreamy resort outside central Cancún, Mexico, offers an amazing all-inclusive experience with delicious dining options, pristine pools, and a vibrant yet laid-back atmosphere.
I'm not even a Jimmy Buffett fan, but I can't wait to spend more time "wasting away" in Margaritaville.
As someone who prefers quirky boutique hotels, the decor at all-inclusive resorts can often feel bland.
I've gotten lost several times simply because everything looks the same, and a few years ago, I stayed at a resort that was so sprawling I had to take a bus to get from one end to the other.
Even though Margaritaville is a massive chain, the resort's design still feels stylish and thoughtful — and there are only 355 guest rooms. Instead of bland, cookie-cutter suites, the rooms have cute features like tropical artwork, parrot-patterned bedding, and unique furniture.
From the decorative surfboards adorned with song lyrics to the stunning parrot murals, the subtle nods to Buffett's legacy create an immersive experience for guests.
Plus, each floor has artwork featuring different lyrics, making it easy to find your room even after a day of margaritas by the pool.
Margaritaville also offers dining options for every foodie, whether you're craving a "cheeseburger in paradise" or something more gourmet.
Frank and Lola's — one of the stand-alone restaurants — serves various Italian-inspired dishes, including delicious, made-to-order woodfired pizzas and osso buco. For casual poolside bites, the Licensed to Chill Café has burgers, fries, tacos, and a daily selection of regional ceviches.
Even the breakfast buffet is delicious. I've fallen in love with Mexican breakfast foods like chilaquiles, and the Margaritaville buffet had the perfect combination of regional specialties alongside pastries, bacon, eggs, and waffles.
The resort offers things I've never seen anywhere else, like rooftop pickleball courts that glow in the dark at night.

But if that's not your thing, the main pool faces the ocean and has a DJ who hosts weekly foam parties. There are also plenty of quiet pool areas where you can relax, tune out, and catch a nap in a hammock.
If you need a break from guzzling tropical drinks poolside, the resort has a microbrewery where you can sample beers brewed on-site. The vibe inside feels like a neighborhood watering hole, with upscale pub food and nightly live music.
I also loved that my suite had a fully stocked minibar with a cutting board and lime
