Filmmaker. Academy Award Winner. Knight. Sir Ridley Scott is not short on titles; and now, the Napoleon director can also add hotelier to the list with Mas des Infermières, a historic winery and vineyard with vacation residences in the heart of Provence, France. Owned and operated by Scott and his family, this charming Luberon address sits on the fringes of the medieval hilltop village of Oppède-le-Vieux and has been in the Scott family for over 30 years. The estate’s first independent vintage was recently released in 2020.
Set over a 30-hector vineyard of largely Grenache and Syrah grapes, the estate is made up of a shop, storehouse and cellar, and an exhibition dedicated to Ridley Scott’s films, which includes blockbusters like Alien (1979); Blade Runner (1982); Thelma & Louise (1991); Gladiator (2000), Black Hawk Down (2001); and most recently, Napoleon (2023). Scott also directed the Provence-set A Good Year (2006), which was partially filmed in the nearby hamlet of Bonnieux.
Also on site is a small collection of residences available for bookings all year round. The residences opened in summer 2023, and there are three to choose from:
Les Chênes Vert is the largest, sleeping up to nine across four double bedrooms and one single bedroom, all with ensuite bathrooms. A wing off of the main house is arranged as a private apartment for two with a dedicated kitchen and living room, for those who want a little extra privacy. Design-wise, it has a rustic farmhouse air with stone floors and French doors, plus a clash of the contemporary delivered via art and furnishings. Rates start at €900 per night (three-night minimum).
Mas Gris sleeps six with three ensuite double bedrooms. Exposed wood beams, a stone fireplace and French-blue shutters give this villa plenty of Provençal charm. Rates start at €600 per night (three-night minimum).
The third option is Mas Marcou, which also sleeps six, divided between a main house and a separate bedroom annex. Rates start at €480 per night (three-night minimum).
All three private residences come with a heated outdoor pool and garden, which is the perfect spot to sip a glass of Mas des Infermières wine—rouge, blanc, or rosé—which feature labels designed by Scott.

When you walk into Baldwin & Co., a bookstore and coffee shop in New Orleans's lively Marigny neighborhood, you feel not only at ease but also inspired. Owner DJ Johnson was intentional in his curation of the hybrid space, which has hosted community gatherings since it opened in early 2021. “I wanted to provide nourishment for the soul of New Orleans,” says Johnson, who spent several years in Atlanta pursuing a career in information technology before returning to the city where he grew up. He's done just that by turning the lovingly renovated storefront, once a po'boy shop, into a hub for the city's Black and Brown writers, artists, and creatives. Johnson finds his own sustenance in the city's eclectic and ever-expanding art and music scenes, from dancing along to big, brassy jazz bands to visiting galleries that celebrate the city's enduring African American heritage. Here's how he spends 48 hours in the Big Easy.
