In honor of the total solar eclipse on Friday, April 8 and the upcoming supermoon on Monday, August 19, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is celebrating 2024’s celestial events with a debut otherworldly collection of ice cream flavors.
The Punk Stargonaut collection comes with a backstory: A fictional flight through the galaxy during which Jeni’s collected alien fruit and out-of-this-world flavors to create cosmic inspired pints and scoops.
The four new flavors will be available at midnight on March 28, for shipping by the pint.
The collection includes a new Nebula Berry flavor, which is a radiant hot pink with a bright blue center. The flavor is tart like a blueberry and vibrant like a raspberry, with the edition of elderflower fragrance. The new Cosmic Bloom is tropical, with mandarin citrus flavors, refreshing kiwi essence and a passionfruit punch to round it all out. Purple Star Born is said to be discovered in the bioluminescent bay of a meteor and in real life, it’s a juicy Concord grape and blackcurrant flavor, with a puckery quality. The fourth flavor, Supermoon, is a retired flavor that’s returning to scoop shops and pints, known for having a cereal milk flavor with marshmallows, candied violet and plenty of glittery moon dust.
In addition to the four flavors, Jeni’s Star Dust, has a fizzy popping candy can help bring customers to a new galaxy as a topping on any scoop.
Galactic decor will start popping up in Jeni’s scoop shops starting on Thursday, March 28. Free eclipse glasses will also be offered with any purchase starting on April 5. On April 8, Star Dust will be free to add to any order, or 50-cents any other day.
Want a flavor a little more down to earth? Ben and Jerry’s Marshmallow Sky ice cream is also now available by the pint, and served in scoop shops.
Jeni’s isn’t the only American food brand offering special items in honor of the eclipse. SunChips just announced a partnership with astronaut Kellie Gerardi, dropping exclusive Pineapple Habanero and Black Bean Spicy Gouda chips on eclipse day.
Oreo also unveiled a limited edition Space Dunk cookie, filled with pink and blue marshmallow-flavored “cosmic creme” plus popping candies, which would probably be very good with some of Jeni’s creations.

New Jersey might be one of the most underrated destinations in the US. Sandwiched between New York City and Philadelphia, the Garden State is often delegated to the shadows (or as a punchline to its urban neighbors). But this state has plenty of charm—from its 130 miles of Jersey Shore beaches and sprawling natural sites (like the Pinelands biosphere reserve and the country’s largest collection of cherry blossom trees) to its historic riverside towns and sky-high mountains.

For the April 8 total solar eclipse, photographer Levi Mandel traveled to Buffalo, New York, to observe the celestial event—and the many others who journeyed for it. Below, he shares the experience through text and photos.
The totality of an eclipse is never long enough. My first total solar eclipse experience in 2017 made for the shortest two minutes of my life: the sun transforming into a blazing diamond ring, the beautiful delirium of darkness, that perfect circle in the sky. Before I knew it, the eclipse was over—and my friends and I were plotting how we could catch our next.
