The luxury beachfront resort’s extensive redevelopment includes elevated guest rooms, a newly appointed Beach House, three restored resort pools, a fitness center, spa and property-wide enhancements.
LaPlaya’s revitalization project encompassed 189 of the resort’s luxurious and spacious guest rooms, the complete rebuild and elevated design enhancements of the famed Beach House, and the restoration of its four beachside pools.
The resort’s Gulf Tower and Bay Tower have undergone a complete exterior and interior rejuvenation, boasting a harmonious blend of vibrant hues and coastal-modern designs. In-room, eco-friendly enhancements feature electric mirrors with steel chassis made from 23% post-consumer recycled content, along with WaterSense toilets aimed at reducing water consumption. The surrounding tower grounds have been refreshed and renewed, once again beckoning guests to explore the lush, tropical landscape and to relax beachside as the calm turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico gently kiss the shore.
Ideally situated on Vanderbilt Beach, the Beach House underwent extensive enhancements during the restoration process. These enhancements include modern ocean-inspired color schemes, stylish in-room furniture, and new climate control systems. The Beach House also features private outdoor fire pits for the ground floor beachfront Lanai rooms, expansive walk-in showers accented with coastal-chic barn doors, modern wood grain tile flooring and upgraded patio furniture aimed at maximizing guests’ beachside comfort.
“The completion of this extensive restoration marks a significant milestone for LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort,” says Martin Greenwood, Area Managing Director at LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort. “Since its opening in 1968, LaPlaya has set the bar for luxury experiences and top-notch hospitality. We are thrilled to welcome back guests to rediscover our amenities and rekindle their love for the cherished ambiance of our resort. Our commitment to excellence has driven us to not only restore but also enhance LaPlaya, preserving its inherent coastal charm while taking it to new heights of luxury.”
Additional Key Design Updates
In line with LaPlaya’s dedication to delivering outstanding guest experiences, the resort is thrilled to introduce a range of exhilarating beachfront water sports activities. Enjoying the sand and sun is a quintessential part of summer, whether you’re on a tropical vacation or visiting a local beach. And while there’s always room for spontaneity, a truly enjoyable day at the beach requires a bit of planning and forethought for most of us. Tell people you’re going to Hawaii, and you’ll be met with enthuastic questioning, namely: “Where are you staying?” Tell them you’re going to Waikiki, however, and watch their giddy expressions wane. Ann Hood summed it up best in this 2023 New York Times article: “Lately, it’s become fashionable to dismiss Waikiki as a playland for tourists and not the ‘real’ Hawaii.”

For years, the Costa da Caparica—a long stretch of Atlantic beach just across the Tagus River from Lisbon—was something of an afterthought; Lisboetas saw it merely as a low-rent suburb. But about a decade ago, that started changing, when the surfers caught the waves and a group of bohemian, mostly international scene-makers caught onto the region’s potential. Since then, one beach club after another has opened, some with sophisticated food, some with chilled-out afternoons and others with booming parties that last until sunrise.
