The One&Only Mandarina was recently named the number-one hotel in North America by the new global ranking of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2023. The list was announced at an awards ceremony in London and includes hotels across six continents worldwide. This list marks 50 Best’s first ranking in the travel space.
“We are honoured to have been selected as the No.1 hotel in North America and No.8 in the world by the most discerning travel professionals,” Nicolas Cejas, General Manager, One&Only Mandarina, said in a press release.
“The World’s 50 Best list has always been a beacon of the most exceptional hospitality and we couldn’t be prouder to receive this accolade alongside so many iconic properties in the world. This is a true testament to the hard work, passion and commitment of our amazing colleagues for continuing to go above and beyond for our guests, exemplifying the highest standards in hospitality.”
Opened in November of 2020, One&Only Mandarina is set on a rare undeveloped stretch of coastline along Riviera Nayarit in Mexico. The property is serene and secluded with clifftop villas and palm-fringed sands. The luxury resort boasts 105 villas and treehouses with private plunge pools and views overlooking either the ocean or the jungle.
“Our heartfelt congratulations go out to every hotel on the list, each of which has clearly made a lasting impression on our Academy of travel experts,” Tim Brooke-Webb, Managing Director for The World’s 50 Best Hotels commented.
“After seeing the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry, it’s been especially fulfilling to see so many hoteliers from around the world gather in London to celebrate each other’s achievements under one roof for the first-ever awards ceremony for The World’s 50 Best Hotels. We hope this list inspires travel lovers to book somewhere truly spectacular for their next trip.”

Whenever I find myself with a hankering for tequila (as I often do) I typically reach for one of my favorite blancos, which I much prefer over reposados and añejos. The philosophy being that the mark of a brilliant maestro tequilero is in their blanco—unaged and straight from the still and brimming with vibrant fresh agave notes that take you back to Jalisco. Truly, there’s no way to achieve a beautiful aged tequila with a rubbish blanco. Hence my partiality.
