The Rough Guide to Everywhere podcast is back. Today we are delighted to launch Series Two of The Rough Guide to Everywhere, with this special recording taken in front of a live audience at the London Podcast Festival.
In previous episodes, we have travelled all around the world, from Patagonia to the Ukraine, via Scandinavia and the Scottish Highlands. But in this live episode, recorded in Kings Cross, it felt fitting to focus our conversation on London town.
Host Greg Dickinson sits down with three born-and-bred Londoners: Time Out London's news and events editor Sonya Barber, spoken-word poet Jeremiah «Sugar J» Brown and the Pearly Queen of St Pancras herself.
In this discussion we hear their thoughts on community spirit, the impacts of gentrification and what they consider to be «quintessentially London» (pie and mash, escalators and the Thames, if you were wondering).
We hope you enjoy this episode – don’t forget to let us know what you think. Rate us on Apple Podcasts and get in touch on Twitter using #roughguidespod!
Subscribe to The Rough Guide to Everywhere now (iTunes; Soundcloud; Spotify). In the next instalments we will travel to North Korea, discover a forgotten civilization in the Bolivian Amazon and witness the silence of Antarctica. Stay tuned...

I’ve never been to London, but I’ve experienced it many times. From sitting in on royal meetings in Buckingham Palace to passing through the walls of King’s Cross Station at Platform 9 ¾, London has come alive in my imagination through some of my favorite books and movies.

The packing list alone can overwhelm even the most organized parents, not to mention the precision planning required to ensure the children's needs are met at every step of the journey. Hotel Café Royal in London is making this dream a reality through collaboration with Louenna Hood, the former Royal Nanny.
“The city that never sleeps” is probably a cliché used for cities in almost every country in the world. But is London really a nocturnal city, where night-or-day you can find somewhere to play? Lottie Gross took up the challenge to find out...
Go to Venice or Amsterdam, and you can hardly cross a street without tumbling into a canal. In London, you have to dig deeper.
Drinking alcohol is so passé. In 2015 London, it’s all about inhaling vapourised booze through your lungs and eyeballs.
As a tourist in London, you won’t be short of company. The capital has the three most popular free visitor attractions in the UK (British Museum; National Gallery; Natural History Museum). It also lays claim to the top three paid-for sites (Tower of London; St Paul's Cathedral; Westminster Abbey).
