The Amex Gold in white gold and rose gold shines inside and out

They say looks aren't everything, but let's be honest: It's hard to ignore the striking American Express® Gold Card in rose gold.

With its pinkish gold hue and metallic texture, Amex's Gold card in rose gold is one of the best-looking cards out there. Lucky for all of us, the card is great on the inside, too. It earns top marks for dining and groceries, placing it on our lists of best cards for both categories.

In the past, rose gold was the only color option besides the standard yellow gold, but now there's a new kid on the block, with a limited-time white gold option looking to steal its shine — literally. The white gold card has a muted cream hue and metallic texture. However, I am on the fence about the color, as it looks like a duller version of The Platinum Card® from American Express to me.

When applying online, new card applicants can choose between the standard gold, rose gold and limited-time white gold variants.

Existing cardmembers can request one of the variants by logging into their online account and navigating to "Account Services." Then, they should click on "Card Management" and "Change Card Design." From there, they can choose between the three color variants made from metal — or the yellow gold made from 85% recycled plastic.

The Amex Gold Card — with rose gold, gold and white gold color options — offers 4 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent at restaurants (up to $50,000 per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar) and U.S. supermarkets (up to $25,000 per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar). You'll also earn 3 points per dollar spent on flights booked directly with the airline or amextravel.com.

What's more, you can get up to $120 annually ($10 per month) in Uber Cash, which can be used on Uber Eats orders or Uber rides in the U.S. Just make sure to add your gold card to your Uber account first.

You'll also get an up to $120 dining credit (up to $10 per month in statement credits with participating partners; enrollment required).

Should you fully maximize the annual Uber (up to $120) and dining statement credits (up to $120), as well as the Resy statement credit (up to $100) and the Dunkin' statement credit (up to $84), you'll be able to more than offset the $325 annual fee (see rates and fees) on the card. And that doesn't include the other benefits the card offers. Enrollment is required for select benefits.

New applicants who are approved for the card can earn 60,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $6,000 on eligible purchases with the card within the first six months of account opening.
