Returning to the Quail Lodge in Carmel, California on Saturday, May 4th, The Quail Motorcycle Gathering celebrates its 14th year in a row. Designed for motorcycle enthusiasts, this family-friendly event is always much-anticipated in the automotive world and promises a packed schedule of showcases, activities, vendors and more.
Bringing together top contemporary models and vintage, one-of-a-kind motorcycles, the event is about honoring the timelessness of the sport- and the diverse culture around it. The Gathering is a rare chance to see some of the world's newest (and oldest!) machines in person, sharing the weekend with motorcycle celebrities and fellow fans.
This year's event is set to feature four classes, including the 100th Anniversary of the American Motorcyclist Association and Vespa. These join over ten additional traditional event classes, which include Choppers, On and Off-Road Competition, Antique, and more. The Suzuki Hayabusa and Ducati 916 are also celebrating important anniversaries. The Vespa class will spotlight the world-famous Vespa scooter, which has been as much of a fashion icon as it has a practical urban mainstay.
The event is known for showcasing notable entrants and builders, and this year, there are plenty to keep an eye on. Hailing from Wenatchee, Washington, Steve Wellman will be showing his 2006 Suzuki Hayabusa- inspired hyperbike concept, which reaches over 300 mph. Coming from Rancho Santa Margarita, Pikes Peak motorcycle record holder Rennie Scaysbrook will be on site with his 2018 Aprilia Tuono 1100 Factory.
California's own Keith Young, who took home the Arlen Ness Award at last year's Gathering, based his contribution on the 1975 Honda CB500F Super Sport. Lastly, be sure not to miss Lily Key's "Dragonator," a custom Harley based on the 2019 Harley Davidson Softail from this L.A. based artist and builder.
Each year, the Gathering organizers invite an influential individual to chat with the audience, which is a great way to hear true stories about the sports world from those who lived them. This year's featured Legend of the Sport fireside chat speaker will be motocross/ off-road racing professional, California native, and hall of famer Ricky Johnson.
Preceding the main gathering, the Quail Ride takes place on May 3rd. This 100-mile ride traverses the Monterey Peninsula, marking the kickoff to the weekend. Participants will enjoy the local Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, along with lunch and dinner. The ride is the perfect way to get to know fellow attendees, enjoy the scenery and get ready for Saturday's jam-packed events schedule.
Food trucks, a pet-friendly policy, an official children's area and live music make the experience accessible to families and all the
