It's been a bad week for Delta flyers, but here's a little good news amid the chaos: The airline's major partner Aeromexico is launching a new nonstop flight between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) near New York City and Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez (MEX) in Mexico City. The daily service, a codeshare with Delta, is scheduled to begin on October 27.
From Newark, the Aeromexico flight will depart at 7:05 a.m. and land in Mexico City at 11:30 a.m. The reverse flight will depart Mexico City at 3:45 p.m. and land in Newark at 9:30 p.m.
Aeromexico will fly the route on its Boeing 737 MAX-8 aircraft, which has a capacity of 166 passengers across 16 business class seats, 18 AM Plus seats, and 132 economy seats. The new plane features high-speed WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity, and fast charging plugs.
Currently, only United flies nonstop from Newark to Mexico City, so if you wanted to make that nonstop journey on another airline, you'd have to trek over to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York. From there, Aeromexico, Delta, American Airlines, and VivaAerobus all operate nonstop flights to Mexico City.
But with the upcoming launch of the Aeromexico route, SkyTeam flyers will now have a second airport option. Newark will be Aeromexico's 24th destination in the U.S., following new route launches to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Tampa International Airport (TPA).
All in, Aeromexico's new Newark flight brings the SkyTeam connectivity between the New York metropolitan area and Mexico City to five daily flights. The Delta-Aeromexico alliance serves 60 routes between the U.S. and Mexico with more than 200 flights carrying more than 200,000 passengers per week.
