The first thing that struck me as I arrived in Gran Canaria was the spinning white blades that dotted the horizon. I later learnt that these wind turbines generate 20 per cent of the island’s energy, far higher than the European average.

If you’ve ever dreamed of getting lost in a whimsical work of art or sleeping in a fairyland, your dream can come true at the The Kelsey Montague Art Experience, also known as the Gulch Wings Home. It’s an Airbnb unlike any other, and it’s the brainchild of Kelsey and Courtney Montague who are sisters and business partners in the venture.
The home has bold murals and over 70 pieces of original art throughout the living room and stairwells. When you step inside, you’ll see the distinct Montague vision and artistic voice from the moment you walk in the room, and it will probably look quite familiar.
Kelsey Montague’s artwork first went viral when Taylor Swift stood with her angel wings mural in New York City. Since then, Kelsey has enjoyed stunning success as an international street artist, and her murals can be seen in many big cities around the world.
I chatted with Courtney and Kelsey Montague about this unique joint project. Kelsey shared why she was excited to create the arts-forward home in Music City.
“Nashville has a special place in our hearts. It is where my currently most famous piece is (the Gulch wings), and it’s where I worked with Taylor Swift to help launch her single ‘ME!’. Beyond that, the city is just so creative and kind. I love being there and genuinely feel it is my second home,” she said.
Each room was designed through the lens of Kelsey’s art. Also, nearly everywhere you turn, there’s a chance to interact with the art you see.
Kelsey has also hidden over 30 images in the green wall mural in the entrance. Also, you can stand inside the art and even appear to be a part of it. There’s a full set of black and white wings, which Kelsey is known for. There’s also a profile set of wings that are covered in gold leaf.
Each bedroom has a different theme and tells its own story. The downstairs is a “fairy” room. It’s beautiful and has the feel of a quaint, quiet English cottage. It has a TV hidden behind a bookcase, and its fairy door on the baseboard has a porch light that turns on the light for one wall of the room. They designed the room to be a peaceful nook where one can relax and read a book.
The upstairs guest bedroom is completely drawn in Sharpie. Kelsey’s vivid, captivating illustrations cover each wall, and it can feel like you have stepped into your very own storybook.
Then there’s the primary bedroom that has Kelsey’s custom flower wallpaper. The design seamlessly also covers the bedding, lamps, and pillows in the room. Not all is what it seems here. There’s a 1920’s speakeasy that’s hidden behind a mirror. It includes a joy-inspiring giraffe that ‘moves’ through frames while attempting to eat a hanging plant.
The hallways and bathrooms are also full of inspiring hanging art,

It’s not clear when London museums first reinvented themselves with the opening of the queue-forming ‘blockbuster’ exhibitions that we are so familiar with these days. Was it back in 2013, when the V&A opened the David Bowie is exhibition? (It was so popular that the exhibit eventually visited five international cities and has now been seen by over two million visitors worldwide, making it on track to become the V&A’s most visited exhibition in its history.) Or could the seed for this phenomenon have been sewn way back in 1972, when the British Museum announced its Treasures of Tutankhamun exhibition, which saw lines snaking around the block – the first for a London museum at the time?

It’s not a hard ask to visit Miami in February. Most of the US is plummeted with snow storms in February, while Miami’s average February temperatures hover around the mid-70s. When I visited earlier this month, I took an evening stroll in sandals on Miami’s famed Ocean Drive, listening to the clinking of glasses from the street’s

To me, a gallery or museum is a special place for self-reflection because everything is curated. It’s a safe space, somewhere to enjoy a moment of quiet and see how I’m moved by what I’m experiencing. You don’t need to necessarily understand or intellectualise what you’re seeing. A gallery can be used as a space to connect to yourself or notice your feelings about what’s happening in the world around you.
