If you’re looking to see some of the most magnificent holiday lights displays between now and the New Year, a new study from SmokyMountains.com shows the top-rated lights in the country as well as the highest-rated lights attractions broken down by state.

For its rankings, the research team gathered a list of the top 230 popular Christmas locations in the United States. Then, to narrow it down the team gathered information from tourists via TripAdvisor, calculating how many reviews mentioned “Christmas.”
The team determined that a “Night of A Thousand Candles” at the Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina ranked as the top-rated Christmas display. The gardens have 2,700 hand-lit candles plus millions of sparkling lights.
The Biltmore in North Carolina and the Rockefeller Center in New York City were No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
The study also named a few “hidden gems” — i.e. more quaint places that didn’t have hundreds of of reviews, but were, let’s just say, glowing. These spots included Leavenworth Reindeer Farm in Leavenworth, Washington, Irvine Park Christmas Village in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and the Nubble Lighthouse in York, Maine.

When it comes to putting together the perfect pub tap line-up, parallels can be drawn from football management. As with an ideal first 11, there needs to be balance at the pumps — a required blend of promising youth and gnarled veterans, an equilibrium struck between the scampering pomp of the new world craft brewing scene and a solid spine of enduring, ageless classics, the odd eccentric from overseas and, at the fear of stretching the analogy a little too far, a couple of unashamed crowd-pleasers who go down far too easily.

It’s a common dilemma most travelers face when booking a dream vacation: how many days are you going stay in one place? It's a choice that can be the difference of having perfectly enjoyed the time in a city, and being somewhere just a little too long. This week, the dilemma spilled over into an online discourse on Reddit where hundreds of travelers weighed in on which cities require the most amount of days to visit, and which can be skipped over. One of the top cities that travelers felt needed extra time is Tokyo. The city has a population of 14 million across 847 sq. miles, while for comparison, New York City is only 468 sq miles. “Definitely Tokyo, if we're counting the Tokyo Metropolis. Just the city proper requires 10-14 days to explore its variety and sprawl,” one traveler wrote in support of the Japanese city in the tread.
