The only thing better than devising a powerful points strategy for yourself is joining forces with your significant other to rake in even more rewards.
Devising a credit card strategy as a couple can help you earn more points and miles across the board, as well as allow you to maximize perks and other benefits. All of this plotting and planning will come in handy when it's time to hit the road.
Assuming you have excellent credit and are financially responsible — i.e., you won't be spending beyond your budget or carrying balances that zero out any rewards you accumulate — it's generally advisable to diversify your rewards credit cards. That's true both in terms of the number of cards you can reasonably carry and the kinds of points you start stashing away.
However, as a couple, it can also make sense to double down with a specific flexible loyalty program and credit card issuer if it means magnifying the power of your rewards. One such circumstance where this is a good move is to get both the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.
Here's why you might want to get both the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Chase Sapphire Preferred as a points power couple — one for each of you — and how to maximize both the cards if you do.

The first and most significant reason to consider applying for both of these cards right now is to earn their current welcome bonuses.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred is offering up to 75,000 points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening. That's the second-highest public promotion this card has ever extended before.
Meanwhile, the Chase Sapphire Reserve currently offers the same welcome offer of 75,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening.
Looking at them, you might think it would be better for a couple to get either card because of the same welcome offer. Otherwise you can apply for both, allowing you to avoid paying the Chase Sapphire Reserve's $550 annual fee for one of the card's.
If what you want is a quick haul of points to use with Ultimate Rewards partners, it's a solid plan. But by doing so, you could miss out on some seriously valuable opportunities.

Before we get to that, though, you'll also want to make sure you're eligible for one or the other of these cards.
The application pages of both cards state:
This product is available to you if you do not have any Sapphire card and have not received a new cardmember bonus for any Sapphire card in the past 48 months.
So if you or your partner currently have one of the Sapphire cards, that person will

Choosing your next credit card can be a challenge. When I decided to open my fifth credit card, it came down to a showdown between the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and the Bilt Mastercard® (see rates and fees). While the rewards and benefits of the Bilt card are appealing, I chose to go with the Sapphire Preferred.
In October 2023, as the races at the Mexico City Grand Prix electrified track-side spectators, a quieter but no less meaningful moment unfolded at the city's Gota de Leche School. Associates of The Ritz-Carlton, Mexico City and members of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team came together to create a bright, cheery, and well-stocked arts and crafts room for its students, with a view to improving the quality of arts programming as well as creating capacity for creative enrichment. As another gift to the students, the volunteers also packed school bags filled with new art supplies, including a handwritten letter from each of them.

Stay22’s partnership with Generation Voyage – whose website had over 50 million unique views in 2023 – soon to enter fourth year.
When I first started at The Points Guy all the way back in 2011, it wasn't unusual for me to spot a mileage deal, grab my suitcase and hop on a plane at the drop of a hat. These days, however, I'm more likely to plan ahead and plot out each trip I take moment by moment well in advance (mainly so I don't annoy my partner with the frequent disappearing acts!).
A couple of years ago, it seemed the end of the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card reign in my wallet was near.
We often say the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is the best first credit card for those learning about the points and miles hobby. That's not because the card is a "beginner" card — quite the opposite. Many of us at TPG still have the Sapphire Preferred because it's integral to our travel rewards strategy.
Memorial Day is a chance to honor U.S. military personnel and to celebrate the distinct history and landscapes that make this country so unique. The three-day weekend has become the unofficial kick-off to summer and one of the year's busiest travel weekends. More than 42 million Americans traveled over the weekend last year, and airlines and experts expect a similar number this year.
Perhaps you want to know what your flight status is so you can keep track of any possible delays or changes that could affect your travel plans—or worse, that would require you to rebook your flight. Or maybe you want to double-check the anticipated arrival time of a friend or loved one’s flight before heading to the airport to pick them up. Maybe you’re curious where the plane you’ll soon be boarding is flying from. Or perhaps you saw a plane overhead and are wondering where it’s headed. There are myriad reasons why you might want to check the status of a flight.
Discovering I could drive without the use of my legs was nothing short of a revelation. Before a car crash left me paralyzed from the chest down, I had no knowledge of the adaptations available to Disabled drivers until the moment the occupational therapist in spinal rehabilitation told me that it was, in fact, still possible for me to get behind the wheel.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is one of the best travel credit cards on the market — whether you're a beginner to the world of points and miles or a seasoned pro.
