Defining the true essence of the luxury travel experience can be challenging for both travel providers and travel advisors.
Toward this end, global tour operator Kensington Tours collaborated with Opinium Research to conduct an in-depth Luxury Travelers Survey that engaged more than 400 adults with household incomes over $250,000.
This niche group of luxury travelers reported taking 3-10 trips annually, each lasting two weeks or more.
Luxury travelers revealed a strong willingness to spend more for seamless travel experiences, personalized trip planning, enhanced access, novel adventures and increased space.
Here are some of the specific luxuries affluent travelers said they would be willing to pay extra for:
A staggering 66% expressed frustration with common travel hassles, emphasizing a willingness to pay a premium for line-skipping, crowd-free experiences, and private tours,
About two-thirds (66%) of the respondents sought personalized, tailor-made trips with 62% wanting streamlined one-stop planning.
A desire for premium access resonated strongly with 81% craving experiences without wait times, 78% opting for privately guided tours, 74% seeking access to exclusive events, and 72% eager for unique off-the-beaten path adventures.
A remarkable 89% of these seasoned travelers expressed a keen interest in discovering new destinations—with travel to Switzerland, Norway, and Portugal topping the list.
Accommodations with enhanced space, privacy, and exclusivity were deemed crucial by 50% of respondents, endorsing the appeal of luxury villas and private yacht expeditions.
Helen Giontsis, President of Kensington Tours, affirmed the alignment of survey outcomes with their client observations. The company is actively responding to these consumer preferences, unveiling new programs spanning all continents.
These offerings include an expanded private villa portfolio; a unique yacht program with land experiences, private jet and helicopter transfers; and exclusive ocean and river ship itineraries with guided shore excursions.
As Giontsis stated in announcing the findings, "Our survey validates the trends observed among our clients, and we remain dedicated to exceeding expectations by developing unique offerings tailored exclusively for the luxury travel sector."
