There are five-star accommodations overlooking beautiful landscapes and architecture, and then there are mud-laden and moss-covered swamps fit for an ogre. Fans of the latter are in luck—ogre fiends can now book a stay at the swamp to end all swamps. Shrek’s Swamp will be available to book on Airbnb in October.
The charming and cozy homestead and fairytale creature refuge is tucked into the hills of the Scottish Highlands—making it the perfect spot to enjoy chilly autumn days and starry nights. According to a recent press release, Shrek’s pal Donkey is swamp-sitting, and he’s rolling out the welcome mat to host fairytale creatures of all kinds while he’s there.
“Shrek’s Swamp is lovely. Just beautiful. The perfect place to entertain guests,” Donkey said in a press release. “You know what I like about it? Everything. The overgrown landscaping, the modest interiors, the nice boulders, all of it. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves.”
Shrek’s Swamp takes what you think you know about treehouse accommodations and spins it on its head. The rustic property is set within the base of a “tree” with charming use of forestry and, of course, an iconic outhouse fit for an ogre.
Guests can expect “earwax candlelight,” parfaits (everybody likes a parfait!), stacks of freshly made waffles in the morning, an evening campfire, and plenty of other surprises and delights catering toward onion and ogre fiends.
The one-of-a-kind experience will be available to book for an exclusive two-night swamp stay for up to three guests from October 27-29 for $0 a night. Guests can request to book Shrek’s Swamp beginning October 13 at 6 p.m. BST. More information is available at Airbnb.com/Shrek.

“Chowder has always been here,” says Emily Haynes. “It isn’t just a dish for Nova Scotians — it’s who we are.” The executive director of Taste of Nova Scotia, an association that promotes businesses that champion local ingredients, Emily is taking me for a blustery coastal stroll along the Bay of Fundy. “Chowder was shipboard food,” she says as we pass fishing boats stranded on the bay’s muddy bottom; the Atlantic inlet between the Canadian Maritime provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick is home to the world’s highest tides. “Fishermen would cook salt cod or fresh catch with salt pork in hot water, then ship’s biscuits were added as a thickener. It was a tasty meal that could feed a whole ship from one pot.”
Skygazers in eight western U.S. states will be treated to a rare “ring of fire” eclipse on Saturday, Oct. 14. With the moon covering all but the outer edges of the sun, it will briefly look as though there’s a blazing ring of fire igniting the sky.

We also were joined by The Points Guy founder Brian Kelly and his 1-year-old son Dean.

There's nothing quite like a long line at airport security to seriously dampen the excitement of a trip or a vacation. To get through airport security as quickly as possible, you can try your best to avoid peak travel time, pack efficiently, pre-bag your liquids, and make sure your electronic devices are easily accessible until the cows come home. But at the end of the day, the power is out of your hands.
If you know me, you know how much I love planes, and as an AvGeek to the core, it gives me joy to share my love of everything aviation.
The average cost to charter a private jet is over $11,000 per hour. While I regularly receive press releases and pitches about flying privately on the cheap, most of these are not that cheap, at least to me.

Maui is slowly recovering following the fires of August 8, 2023, that killed at least 97 people, with residents starting to return to Lahaina to see the remains of their homes. Many displaced residents are still staying in hotels and short-term rentals. The Maui Tourism Authority and government officials have been updating their recovery information, including a phased reopening allowing some nonessential travel to West Maui beginning October 8. However, questions remain about when and how tourism should return, as reported by The Maui News on September 29.
With its proximity to the United States, an abundance of affordable cities and its appealing lifestyle (rich culture, an increasingly exciting food scene), it’s no wonder Mexico has one of the largest expat populations in the world. More than 1.6 million American citizens living in Mexico—and the numbers have been surging.
