In the summers, yachts moor just off the Bodrum peninsula while their owners come ashore for long, sybaritic lunches. Guests at the hotels dotting this stretch of the Turkish Riviera recline on chaises positioned on floating piers in the Aegean. At night everyone heads to the clubs to dance, drawn in by vocalists’ siren songs that waft onto the streets.
Bodrum first emerged as a chic perch on the international holiday map in the 1970’s and its allure has only increased since 2019 when new hotels and refreshed versions of favorites entered the scene. Adding to the options is a new resort set to open in May: the upscale, secluded and, unusual for the area, all-inclusive Maxx Royal Bodrum Resort.
The style, as devised by Turkish architect Mahmut Anlar, is lean and contemporary, in neutral colors accessorized with dashes of sharp black and white designs, artisan ceramics and art. The smallest one-bedroom suite is 775 square feet; the largest, the five bedroom Presidential Hill Villa measures 11,442 square feet and includes a heated, sea water lap pool, a sauna, steam room and fitness center.
With its location on the northern part of the Bodrum peninsula surrounded by Goltürkbükü Bay, water sports are, naturally, a main focus as an activity. Adding to the experience is access to Mykonos beach club import Scorpios opening in June and its combination of wellness practices utilizing ancient healing techniques, cross cultural music and art presentations and restaurant spotlighting Eastern Mediterranean cuisine.
Back at the resort, wellness is also a pillar of the experiences with a spa combining rituals from different cultures. Holistic therapies such as Tok Sen, acupuncture and Reiki; Ayurveda therapies from India; high tech cosmetology such as microcurrent therapy and ozone therapy; slimming and detox treatments; LED light therapy facial treatments and the pure rejuvenation of an authentic hammam are some of the features of the Maxx Wellbeing Spa. Also part of the spa are an anti-aging retreat program ranging from three to 21 days and a full scale 3,606 square foot fitness studio staffed with instructors specializing in yoga, Pilates, spinning and sound healing along with medical treatments such as Platelet rich plasma injections, a practice any sports fan has probably heard about since it’s used on athletes to promote healing after injuries. For those who prefer swimming in a pool, there’s also an Olympic sized indoor pool as part of the spa.
A variety of culinary options is also planned spanning the globe from local flavors to international names. Among the seven restaurants: Twenty4, open those hours and serving a range of global cuisines including local Turkish specialties; Manos serving Greek cuisine;

A total solar eclipse is coming to the U.S.—but not everyone is invited. On Monday, April 8, the moon will be close enough to Earth to appear just larger than the sun as it crosses its disk, casting a shadow that will move across the planet at about 1,500 mph.
