I’m not a fan of flash sales or flash promotions. I understand the motivation from the travel suppliers’ standpoint, but snooze-you-lose offers are manipulative and disrespectful.
That doesn’t mean they don’t sometimes represent great value, as does this bonus-points offer from JetBlue announced this morning.
Offer Details
Members of JetBlue’s TrueBlue program can earn triple base points for all flights flown during the month of June.

Deal or No Deal
TrueBlue members normally earn three base points per dollar, plus additional points for flights booked on jetblue.com, so the total earning rate increases to six points per dollar for Blue fares, seven points for BluePlus fares, eight points for BlueFlex fares, and six points for Mint.
With the promotion, the base points are tripled, so the total earnings for a Blue fare, for example, would be 12 points per dollar.
That’s a nice bonus, to be sure. Not so nice: forcing TrueBlue members to rush their travel planning.

Am I alone in being annoyed by offers that force customers to respond in haste?

When you think of the Caribbean, the first things that come to mind are most likely turquoise waters, relaxed vibes and swaying palm trees. But there’s a lot more to a trip to this part of the world than lazing around on a sunlounger, taking in the views and sipping exotic cocktails. The Caribbean offers a huge variety of other tempting activities, from windsurfing and waterskiing, to scuba diving and snorkelling to see some of the most beautiful, vividly coloured coral reefs imaginable. Here are a few of the must-try activities you can enjoy.
Vegas has come a long way, baby. No longer a Mecca for gambling and other less licit activities, the city has become synonymous with family fun, world-class dining, and big-name entertainment.

Likely in response to JetBlue’s systemwide double-points promotion, in effect through February 29, Virgin America is also offering double points, but only on select routes.
With the high probability of Virgin America’s being folded into Alaska Airlines within the next two years, Virgin loyalists are in the market for an alternative. And JetBlue wants to be that alternative.
It’s a basic premise of savvy loyalty-program participation that the best return-on-investment is to be had by redeeming points for the program host’s own services. Airline miles are best redeemed for flights, and hotel points are best redeemed for free room nights. Sure, all major programs offer alternative award opportunities—consumer electronics, clothing, event tickets, and on and on—but when you do the math, it inevitably turns out that such options offer very poor value.
Today, two storied travel brands that are destined for the scrap heap announced a marketing partnership that only serves to make their imminent demise that much sadder.
Judging by their load factors, U.S. airlines are doing just fine. For June, Alaska Airlines filled 86 percent of its seats; Delta flew 87.7 percent full; other carriers’ results are expected to be similarly robust.
