The Mexican government announced that additional personnel and lines of communication have been added for the busy Spring Break period to avoid potential travel disruptions at Cancun International Airport.
According to the Riviera Maya News, Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office’s (Profeco) representative Israel Malacón revealed that additional staff members will be assigned to Terminal 2, and kiosks have been added to Terminal 3 and 4 with direct phone access to Profeco staff.
Malacón said the Profeco employees will be on-site at the Cancun airport to deal with traveler complaints during the busy Spring Break period, with staff members being able to “intervene directly with the airlines.”
“Terminals 3 and 4 will have information kiosks that are linked by telephone to Terminal 2 for cases in which a consumer has a matter against an airline,” Malacón told the Riviera Maya News.
Malacón revealed that most travelers who report issues with airlines report their flight being oversold, and Profeco staff members on site can immediately assign the tourists to other planes or provide accommodations if necessary.
Profeco employees will also be on hand to deal with last-minute schedule changes, check-in issues, website errors and other issues that arise. With the Cancun airport being popular with international travelers, staff is looking to provide quick resolutions between impacted passengers and airlines.
“Through an agreement with Carlos Trueba Coll Por, the General Administrator of the Cancun Airport, it was agreed that for the first time at the Cancun International Airport, our staff will be on site from Monday to Friday, with some Saturdays and some Sundays, serving the consumer population,” Malacón continued.
