When is a hotel more than a hotel? When commitment to tradition, celebration of ritual and a deep connection to the past paves the way for a global legacy - whether in Manhattan, Mexico City, or Aspen, Colorado.
With over 56 properties across 24 countries, the St. Regis brand never strays from, but instead digs into its pillars and traditions derived from a storied heritage, filtered in a way that embodies each destination. From Rome to Macau, it’s a champagne saber ceremony at sundown. It’s the signature St. Regis Bloody Mary at the oak paneled bar. It’s community, charity, luxury and establishing a sense of place throughout the world. It’s also polo. Since John Jacob Astor IV founded the St. Regis in 1904, polo has tied directly to the brand’s story, but in a way that reflects modern times.
“Polo is about bringing people together in one place and celebrating,” said Jenni Benzaquen, senior vice president, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts. “In addition to being a highly competitive sport, it naturally fits into the fabric of John Jacob Astor’s original vision. When we set out to create the St. Regis brand, we leveraged all the traditions of those early days, because it was a magical time. One of these traditions is a connection to polo.”
On Sunday, St. Regis hosted the annual St. Regis Snow Polo World Championship at Rio Grande Park in Aspen, just down the street from its slope-side property, the St. Regis Aspen Resort. Longtime St. Regis connoisseur, Nacho Figueras led the St. Regis team, as well-dressed Aspen locals and celebrities like Zoey Deutch, Shaun White, Nina Dobrev and Pom Klementieff looked on from the luxurious VIP St. Regis marquee, sipping bloody marys and dining on an exquisite display of delicacies. It was a moment where everything the St. Regis represents came together in one beautiful day.
For Mr. Figueras specifically, his association with St. Regis further cements the brand inside the world of polo. Not only does St. Regis host the snow polo championship annually, but the brand has championed polo and Mr. Figueras around the world, having sponsored such organizations as the Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup in London, Rome and Singapore.
“Our partnership with Nacho allows us to take the brand outside of the hotel and be present in the places where our guests are, while also celebrating this great sport,” said Ms. Benzaquen. “He's just a perfect fit for the brand, and he and his entire family are great friends to us.”
Ms. Klementieff’s visit to the snow polo championship was a first for the French actress, who’s best known for playing Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Paris in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. “I love horses, I love polo and I love Aspen,” said Ms.

Now that the northern hemisphere is firmly in the cooler months of the year—and it’s only getting colder—it’s time to talk fleece. For bitter winter chills, fleece is hard to beat because the fabric is made to be both lightweight and incredibly insulating. And in recent years, fleece technology has improved so much that the variety on offer is now immense both in quality, style, and price. If you thought that Colorado bros have the market cornered with their Patagonia zip-ups, it’s time to reconsider the category altogether.I was previously super hesitant about fleece because, for most of my life, I assumed its pieces all looked the same. But while shopping in Manchester last year, I came upon a button-up fleece chore jacket with a rounded collar from UK-based Universal Works that changed my mind about what fleece could look like. But in speaking with Universal Works design director and co-founder David Keyte about the material, I learned that the name is actually a catchall that could mean different things depending on where you are. “There really are so many different fleeces,” Keyte says. “It’s an amazing technical invention that replaced knitted wools and cottons to become a flexible layer of clothing that moves with the body and is warm. Fleece became the modern version of those traditional fabrics, but it’s made of synthetic fibers that hold warmth and are lightweight.”My jacket is a wool-blend fleece (that almost looks like boiled wool), which Keyte says is great for heat regulation. I use it from fall on; either on its own or layered underneath a heavier coat when it gets bitingly cold out. But regardless of which brand or style you go for, that’s kind of the benefit of fleece when it comes to outerwear or as a shirt or sweater: They offer enough warmth when worn on their own, but most are light enough to be another protective layer to partner with heavier items for harsher winter days. Here, you'll find our picks for 28 fleece items that will serve you well from now through spring.
