Over the past several years, Choice’s recurring promotional offer has been 8,000 points after two stays.
Sometimes it’s promoted as such: 8,000 points after two stays. More often though, the headline promotes either a free night or a gift card—both of which are available for 8,000 points.
For its latest promotion, the featured bonus is again the free night. But what you’re really earning is 8,000 Choice Privileges points—enough to redeem for a free night at one of 1,500 lower-priced hotels in the Choice network.

While the basic offer remains the same, the promotion has improved in two key respects. First, Choice has modified its points-expiration policy, from hard expiration after two years, to indefinitely extendable with account activity every 18 months. That makes the points more valuable. And second, the definition of “stay” has been changed, also for the better. Previously, stays at Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn, Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, or MainStay Suites hotels were defined as two or more consecutive nights at one hotel. Now a stay at those brands can be as short as a single night. That makes it easier to earn the bonus points.
Offer Details
Between March 3 and May 5, Choice Privileges members can earn 8,000 points after two stays. Again, that’s enough points for a free night at more than 1,500 Choice hotels.
Qualifying stays must be booked at ChoiceHotels.com, via the Choice mobile app, or by calling 1-800-4CHOICE, although Diamond and Platinum members may book direct with the hotel, and corporate travelers may book through a travel agent or corporate booking system.
There’s no limit to the number of times the bonus may be earned.
Registration is required.
Deal or No Deal
Earning enough points for a free night after two stays, even at a lower-end hotel, is a potentially high-value offer, especially if the qualifying stays are single nights at lower-priced properties.
One negative: With a duration of just over two months, this version of the promotion gives travelers little time to complete the two qualifying stays.
That aside, Choice’s is one of the more lucrative of the current hotel offers.

To the list of hotels that offer discounted rates to members of their loyalty programs—Starwood, Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, InterContinental, Choice—can now be added the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group (Quorvus Collection, Radisson Blu, Radisson, Radisson RED, Park Plaza, Park Inn, Country Inns & Suites).
While the Marriott acquisition of Starwood closed in September, the two companies’ integration is far from complete. In particular, Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest continue to operate independently, although members may now link their accounts, transfer points, and have their status matched.
Best Western isn’t known for its generous loyalty-program promotions. The rewards tend to be low value, and the offers have been hobbled by niggling restrictions.
Judging by their load factors, U.S. airlines are doing just fine. For June, Alaska Airlines filled 86 percent of its seats; Delta flew 87.7 percent full; other carriers’ results are expected to be similarly robust.
Hilton announced early this year that there were significant changes coming to the Honors program, set to take effect on April 3. This is a reminder of what’s coming, and how it’s likely to affect you.
Wi-Fi access isn’t free on Alaska Airlines flights. But at least for the next year, the airline’s passengers can use inflight Wi-Fi to send and receive unlimited texts for free.
In the news release touting its new promotion, Wyndham calls it “the richest offer of the year.” That doesn’t bode well for members of Wyndham’s Rewards program.
There’s nothing new about discounted hotel rates available only to members of the hotel’s loyalty program who book direct. Of the major chains, Starwood was the first to offer member-only rates, beginning last year. And Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, and InterContinental have since followed suit.
