Fashion Doesn’t Get More Personal Than Drawn-On Clothes

As the Olympics take over Paris, the hospitality scene is expanding in the city — and beyond — with a handful of new hotel openings worth bookmarking for a visit once the crowds have died down. Le Grand Hôtel Cayré opened in the Seventh Arrondissement earlier this month with 123 rooms, all with handcrafted wooden beds and mustard yellow velvet chairs, some with balconies and views of the Sacre Coeur or Eiffel Tower. In Carry-le-Rouet, a seaside village outside of Marseille, L’Hôtel Bleu’s design follows its name with 44 harbor-view rooms decorated in shades of blue. The property’s restaurant offers three seafood-heavy, Mediterranean-inspired tasting menus, while a private cinema room can be reserved when the weather calls for some indoor time. Further east toward Cannes, in the commune of Mougins, Hôtel Le Mas Candille was recently redesigned by the architect and decorator Hugo Toro, whose hand-painted patterns appear on the curtains and carpets in the 46 rooms. Its Glow House spa has four treatment rooms, each with its own terrace, and a private swimming pool overlooking Provence. In Nice’s old town, Hôtel du Couvent opened last month within a 17th-century convent surrounded by two-and-a-half acres of gardens. The former nuns’ herbal shop has been revived and now offers personalized remedies, some made from herbs grown on the property. There’s also a bathing area with pools of varying temperatures inspired by the nearby Roman baths.

I've spent 30 years eating my way across Disney World. These are the 5 best restaurants on the property — and they aren't in the theme parks.

I'm an annual passholder who's been visiting Disney World for over 30 years. Having at least one big meal a day to look forward to helps me take a break from the Florida heat and refuel before returning to the parks.

After my first long-distance relationship failed, I vowed never to do it again. Then I met another foreign guy online.

In the middle of the pandemic, my phone pinged with an email from InterNations, an expat group I had joined after spending time in Switzerland.

What’s More Italian Than Making Pasta With Grandma?

Growing up in rural Italy in the 1990s, Chiara Leone remembers spending Sundays at her grandmother’s. Big sheets of handmade pasta dried on cotton sheets in the bedroom. The aroma of ragu filled the air. Her grandmother hugged her in an apron, a flour-covered rolling pin in hand.

I took 2 kids and a dog on 3 separate ferries to get to our summer vacation. The 6-hour journey was so much better than driving.

My family — me, my husband, our 8- and 3-year-old daughters, and our wire-haired dog, who's 14 years young — recently took a trip to the Hamptons.

Watsu Therapy Is Making a Comeback at Spas Around the World

“Welcome back,” says the Watsu therapist as I open my eyes. We’re in a dimly lit room, under a domed ceiling freckled with LED lights that mimic constellations. As we emerge out of the circular pool, I feel like I’ve truly been transported out of the space. I'm at JOALI Being, a pampering wellness resort in the Maldives. It might seem an unlikely spot to experience a mind-body epiphany, and yet Watsu—a trademarked, massage-like treatment that takes place in water—has revealed to me much more than a massage (or even a therapy session, to be honest) ever has.

How Paris Moves: Dispatches from France on the Eve of the Olympics

Recently, I walked through Paris to meet a friend on the Rive Gauche. On the hour-long route from my home in Montmartre, I popped in for a croissant at a favorite boulangerie, skirted around the Palais Royal, passed the pyramid of the Louvre, crossed the Seine. Post-coffee, the walk home unfolded in reverse. I ran a few errands as I got closer to my apartment: greens and radishes at our neighborhood épicerie, a crusty and warm baguette at another boulangerie, a bottle of sparkling wine at the caviste. Pausing briefly to adjust my grip on the bags at the base of the stairs leading up to the Sacre-Cœur, I made the inevitable climb up.

An American mom who moved to the French Alps experienced the impacts of over-tourism firsthand. She says there's a better way to do it

Whether carving their names on the Coliseum in Rome or haphazardly approaching bears at Yellowstone National Park, tourists frequently make the news for behavior that's, frankly, very stupid.

Meet the Queer Podcasters Making National Parks More Inclusive

The National Parks, despite efforts to highlight LGBTQ heritage, have long felt like the domain of a homogenous set of travelers. National Park Service efforts to change this image have had mixed results—a number of Pride events in parks have received backlash and even boycotts from those they claim to celebrate. But visibility matters, especially in places long typified as straight, able-bodied, and white—and that’s where folks like Dusty Ballard and Mike Ryan come in.
