Lace up your skates at Maggie Daley Park for a unique winter experience across this winding, ice-covered path, with the city skyline as a backdrop.
Make sure to try a Chicago-style deep dish pizza at Lou Malnati’s, then visit Millennium Park for ice skating and to snap a selfie with the City of Chicago Christmas Tree.
Go sledding and snowshoeing on the parkland surrounding historic Soldier Field, home to the Chicago Bears.
Travel outside Chicago to take advantage of the states top winter attractions.
Villa Olivia Country Club Ski Area offers a public snow area with seven runs, quad chair lift and rope tows for snow tubing, skiing, and snowboarding. With holiday lighting, you can extend mountain time until 10pm.
Chestnut Mountain Resort is conveniently located near historic Galena. Nestled neatly amongst the hills overlooking the Mississippi, the resort features over 220 rolling acres and is home to nineteen ski and snowboarding trails and a seven-acre terrain park.
Head to The Forge: Lemont Quarries to ice skate under the twinkling lights and then warm up in a climate-controlled Forgefire globe, a cozy spot to dine on bratwurst, short rib, or other offerings on the rotating menu.

January is a great time for outdoor winter activities and Lake County, located about a one-hour drive from Chicago, boasts winter pursuits, stunning nature trails, local wineries and boutique shopping.

One of my favorite things about living so close to New York City is ironically how easy it is to escape to somewhere else. Dozens of exciting destinations are just a short drive away from the Big Apple—meaning I'm always planning my next fun weekend away. There are no travel experiences quite as stress-free as the ones where all I need to do is pack up my car, drive, and arrive. That's what I was looking for when I planned my most recent NYC getaway: somewhere that was easy to get to and somewhere I could truly unwind for a few days.
Winter is coming: Bring it on, say Canadians, who revel in the thrill and magic of the season. Visitors eager to experience the winter months (which in some regions can last from November to April) are always delighted by the expansiveness of nature and intimacy of culture, the ease of engaging in outdoor and indoor activities, and ultimately the warmth of the Canadian welcome. The 2022 Games were pushed to 2023 and held in Wood-Buffalo, Alberta. Yukon is a potential host in 2026. In Ontario, Thrive Tours’ Snowshoe Experience is an Indigenous interpretive guided snowshoe experience with snowshoes provided and and learning about local Indigenous culture, history, and the natural environment included.
