While The Walt Disney Company is celebrating its Centennial all year long, Orlando’s Walt Disney World Resort commemorated the actual date of its 100-year anniversary (October 16) with the opening of an enchanting new experience: “Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana” at EPCOT.
Visitors can now stroll through a lushly landscaped walking trail filled with fresh wonders and surprises at every turn. As they explore the Polynesian-inspired pathway, guests get to interact with water in a way that mirrors Moana's special bond with the ocean. This new, immersive environment represents Disney Parks’ very first experience to welcome visitors to a world that’s built around the Walt Disney Animation Studios film, "Moana".
The brand-new walkthrough attraction is the latest to debut at sprawling vacation destination resort in Central Florida. Walt Disney World is, in fact, in the midst of a wave of growth and investment taking place around the property.
As was recently announced at the Destination D23 event, an unprecedented number of exciting projects are now underway. And “Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana” arrives as the newest chapter in the resort’s ever-expanding storytelling legacy. Park guests will also get an opportunity to meet Moana, in person, in a new section of World Nature.
Situated just across from “Journey of Water”, this alcove provides the perfect setting for guests to capture memorable moments on camera, exchange hugs or discuss the importance of water conservation with the courageous Wayfinder herself.
Every member of the family will enjoy taking part in this enchanting, interactive experience, from the youngest tykes to adults who are still young at heart. Here, guests will discover how they can befriend, protect, and cherish that water that brings life to the planet and connects all the world.
Like Moana’s own friend, the ocean, water in this walk-through world exudes a playful spirit and personality, inviting guests to partake in the fun by playing music on “rain harps”, waving hello to dancing streams and even conjuring a powerful ocean wave.
As guests meander through this trail, they'll encounter Te Fiti, guardian of the water as it journeys through the infinitely repeating lifecycle. They might even notice some of their favorite characters from the film carved into the rock surrounding formations, including Heihei, Pua and the young protagonist Moana herself.
The attraction’s launch is part of EPCOT’s multi-year metamorphosis, currently in progress. It is filled with the type of creativity and innovation that Disney is famous for and further demonstrates the company’s dedication to unforgettable storytelling through immersive experiences.

Imagine taking nearly three months to meander across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, reveling in the romantic atmosphere of first-class train travel all the while. From your individual suite on board—or a seat in a gleaming bar car—you’d soak in the unique landscapes of each continent that whoosh past your window, making stops to explore historical marvels, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and picturesque cities.
For some families, visiting Walt Disney World during the holidays is a major bucket-list item, and, according to Jill Knonenborg, a travel agent who specializes in Disney destinations, it is the best season to visit.
The first time I took my kids to Disney World, they were 3 and 5 years old. We lived in Maryland at the time. We made a few more trips during their younger years and eventually moved to a small beach town about 90 minutes from Disney when they were 6 and 8. Like any good Floridian, we signed up for annual Disney passes and started visiting more.

Fame doesn't happen overnight, even less so when it has to be built from the ground up. When it comes to iconic landmarks across the world, it takes even longer.
After moving to Florida from New York City, I live only five minutes away from Magic Kingdom — I can hear the fireworks out my window and could walk to the employee parking lot if I still worked there.
