After spending three weeks in dry dock, Norwegian Joy is back on the water with new spaces and expanded offerings for travelers to enjoy.
Currently sailing round-trip Caribbean voyages from Miami, the 3,804-passenger ship has 24 new balcony staterooms, a new thermal suite in the spa, redesigned owner’s suites and an expanded adults-only Vibe Beach Club. This summer, the newly refreshed ship will head to New York and offer cruises to Bermuda.
“Our guests have asked for these enhancements to Norwegian Joy, and we delivered,” says Norwegian Cruise Line president David J. Herrera. “We strive to evolve the onboard experience based on our guests’ wants and needs, and this is another example of how we put them first in our decision-making. From an expanded spa to additional spacious accommodations, with these new updates, we have given our guests more space to relax, unplug and enjoy their time on board with their loved ones.”

Norwegian Joy’s Mandara Spa and Salon is now the largest of the line’s Breakway-Plus class ships, thanks to the addition of a thermal suite featuring four senses loungers, a sauna, an ice room and a steam room.
In addition, the ship’s two premier owner’s suites have been expanded to three bedrooms; crews also added a new separate dining room and refreshed the living room, the primary bedroom and the outdoor balcony.

Crews also expanded Norwegian Joy’s Vibe Beach Club and added private luxe cabanas; it now has a layout that’s similar to Norwegian Encore and Norwegian Bliss.

For over 20 years, Melissa Goldstein worked as a magazine photo editor. While researching imagery, she developed a fascination with Scandinavian ceramics, 17th-century botanical illustrations and Japanese woodblock prints dating back to the 1500s. It wasn’t until she moved to Brooklyn and began rehabilitating the overgrown garden behind her brownstone that she began combining her interests: “[My brand MG by Hand] was the merging of my research, the garden and making things for my family,” Goldstein says of the fine English porcelain ceramics she now sells in select shops and online. In 2008, the artist began hand-making everyday dinnerware in her home studio in Carroll Gardens, decorating the pieces with floral motifs in a cobalt stain. Black irises, poppies and flowering quince from her garden adorned vases, shallow banchan dishes and scalloped serving trays. Her new Poppy and Cherry collections, which were fired in a gas kiln for 12 to 15 hours, channel Dutch Delftware while depicting local flora. “I have a wall that separates my garden from my neighbor’s, and I’ve interwoven quince in it,” Goldstein says. “I’m very into blooming trees.”
